Conservative-Planned
Adult Institute Series

The Nov. 11 opening of the
Synagogue Adult Institute, spon-
sored by Congregations Adas
Shalom, Ahavas Achim, Beth
Aaron, Bnai Moshe, and Shaarey
Zedek, Detroit Conservative con-
gregations, will mark the begin-
ning of a coopergtive institu-
tion in Detroit.
In the course "Great Passages
in the Bible," designed to con-
sider concepts such as charity,
brotherhood and universalisth,
Divine Justice, good and evil in
the light of selected key pas-
sages from the Bible, Rabbi Mos-
es Lehrman will discuss the im-
pact of these sources and con-
cepts upon the development of
our modern outlook.
In Rabbi Morris Adler's course
"Great Passages from the Tal-
mud" the talmudic techings
with regard to the nature of sin,
Israel, Social progress,: Jewish
practices and institutions, will
be considered. • .
Built around the most fre-
quent and -significant prayers 'in
the Siddur such as the Shema,
the Amidah, Oleinu, etc., a
course in "Great Ideas in the
Prayer BoOk" will be offered by
Rabbi Benjamin Gbrrelick.
"Great Passages in Modern
Jewish Literature" taught by
Rabbi Jacob Segal will study the
impact of the work of the great
Jewish writers upon the life of
their own times and of our time
as well. The works of Peretz,
Sholem Aleichem, 'Bialik, and
others will be dealt with in
terms : of their wider significance
for the future of JeWish life.
The important moments in our
history will be studied in Rabbi
Chinitz' course in `_`Great Mo-
ments in Jewish History."
Four guest lecturers from the
Jewish Theological Seminary
and Hebrew courses will 'be fea-
tured at the Institute.

Rabbi Leizer Levin, vice-presi-
dent of national Agudath Israel_
will address the first meeting
in a series of forums of the
local organization at 8:30 p m.,
today, at Agudath Israel _Syna-
gogue, 11331 Linwood.
The programs, to extend for
10 weeks, will include ,a series
of debates on subjects of Jew-
ish interest. Well known per-
sonalities will participate. A
discussion period will follow
each oneg shabbat.
At a recent meeting, the local
Agudah voted to open a new
school in Israel to bear the
name , of Rabbi Levin. The
funds were given to Rabbi Ye-
hudah Mayer Abramowitz, gen-
eral director of Agudah in Is-
rael, who is now on a five-week
tour of this country.
The opening of the school
brings to six the number of De-
troit-sponsored programs. The
first school was opened in 1949
in Jerusalem. The last one was
erected last year in Kibbutz Ko-
memiuth, at the gateway to the
Negev. • At present, some 30,000
children attend Agudah schools
in Israel.
