"LET'S TALK SENSE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE; LET'S TELL
THEM THE TRUTH, THAT THERE ARE NO GAINS WITHOUT
PAINS, THAT WE ARE NOW ON THE EVE OF GREAT DECISIONS,
NOT EASY DECISIONS . —Adlai E. Stevenson

LIKE

BUT,
WE SHALL VOTE FOR
ADLAI E. STEVENSON]

WE

IKE

FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES ON

TUESDAY NEXT

WHY?

All Americans are grateful to General Eisenhower for the military service that he
rendered his country.

BUT

He has plainly shown that he is now beyond his depth. His victory at Chicago gave us all
hope that at long last the liberal elements of the Republican Party had triumphed. But
his victory proved to be an illusion. In his desperate search for votes he has accepted and
f ol I owed t h e advice of the most reactionary forces in the country today, both in
and out of the Republican Party. Within a few weeks he had endorsed all Republicans,
good, bad and intolerable; and has sought, and without difficulty obtained, the support
of the most regressive elements in the Dem ocratic party as well.

What kind of a Crusade can the General be leading with lieutenants such as Chapman
Revercomb (who Governor Dewey refused even to associate with in his 1948 campaign)
and Governor Byrnes (who threatens and means to abolish the public school system of
South Carolina if segregation is ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United
States)—not to mention men like Senators Malone, McCarthy, Benner Cain and Kern.

Our friends have a sacred and democratic right to their opinions as expressed in this news-
paper last week. But when they tell us that "everything he (the General) has ever done
has been motivated by a desire to do what is fair and just for all," we must respectfully
disagree. The record contradicts.

WHY ADLA1 STEVENSON?

As promised in his acceptance speech - in. Chicago, he has talked sense to
the American people. Never before in an American presidential campaign has
a candidate been so forthright and honest in telling the American people what
they can and cannot expect of him.
2. He has had the fortitude to say the same thing in New York as he_ says in
California, in Michigan as in Louisiana.
3. He has had a wide experience in and knows the processes and problems of
civil government. He played an important role in and is fully familiar with
the United Nations.

4. He is acknowledged to be the best Governor Illinois ever had. He rooted out
corruption; substantially reduced the area of the spoils system; and brought
efficiency and economy to the adminisication of its government.
5. He is a man in the dynamic tradition of Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lin-
coln, Woodrow- Wilson, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

WE VOTE AS AMERICANS

WE VOTE AS AMERICANS, not as Jews. We know what is good for the country is good
for us. We believe that Adlai E. Stevenson offers the American people a forward looking,
progressive, forthright approach to the problems we shall face in the years ahead. That is
why we are voting, and urge you to vote, for Adlai E. Stevenson on November 4th.
