Four students in the Midrasha, college of Jewish studies, oper- ated by the United Hebrew Schools, have been informed that they have passed the proficiency test given by the Hebrew Uni- versity and the World Union for Jewish Education. The four are Janet Olender Miriam Cullen, Chaim Toledan 0 and Daniel Elazar. The test i s given in this country by th e American Association for Jewis' Education and the Nationa e I Council for Jewish Education. To be eligible to take the test, these students had to have a diversified background in He- brew language and literature, Bible, Jewish philosophy and history and development of the prayer book, Mishna and Tal- mud. Upon passage of these tests, the students are now members of a world wide association of students who are proficient in the Hebrew language and allied studies. The community will be invited to join in celebrating their suc- cess at a later date when official certificates from Jerusalem will be presented. Name Sander Levin National SDA Chairman DON'T LET "INTERESTS" STEAL YOUR VOTE! You—like every other American—are en- titled to a full vote. Yet, at the present time, your vote for state senator counts only about a tenth as much as a vote cast in the Upper Peninsula. That's because the state senator up there represents only about a tenth as many people as a state senator from this area Reapportionment Proposal No. 2 will correct this. Your vote will count as much•as anybody's. Selfish groups support- ing rival Proposal 3 are asking you to con- tinue unequal representation in the Senate in order to protect special "interests". This is nothing more than an attempt to confuse the issue in an -effort to get YOU to give them a portion of your voting power. It's an At the fifth annual conven- tion of Students for Democratic Action held recently in New Beth Abraham School To Resume Classes Sunday Cong. 'Bagels and Yox' Opens At Cass Sunday Night Continuing the same success that marked a six month's run on Broadway and hearty ac- ceptance in major cities, "Bagels and Yox," which now has well over 650 performances to its credit, opens a return engage- ment in Detroit at the Cass Theater on Sunday evening. It Will stay here for only seven nights, with matinees Wednes- day and Saturday, and then pro- ceed to Chicago for a request run there as well. With the exception of the ad- dition of a glamorous, Italian- born songstress, Jo Ann Florio, who replaced Mary Forrest when the latter retired from the com- pany to have a baby, the cast is the same that appeared pre- viously . at _the Shubert. Chief among the funsters are the Barton Brothers and comic Larry Alpert. Rickie Layne, with his Yiddish dummy, Velvel, adds to the merriment. Operatic tenor Marty Drake and contralto-voiced Miss Florio handle the principal singing as- signments, Kurt Jones and his troupe supplying dancing inter- ludes. Presiding is Lou Saxon, as master of ceremonies. The musi- cal score by Sholom Secunda and Hy Jacobson is again under the leadership of Irving Carroll. SANDER LEVIN York, Sander M. YOU NEED A FULL VOTE Why should you be deprived of a full vote just because you happen to live in this section of the State? Obviously the majority of us can't get legislation that will benefit the majority of Michigan as long as a small minority controls the Legislature. For example, 52% of us now pay 75% of the state's taxes. In order to get the kind of legislation you want, you need equal representation in Lansing. You need a full vote. That's just exactly what Proposal No. 2 gives you and everybody—a full and equal vote. Here's What Proposal 2 Does: PROPOSAL 3 IS A FRAUD • Ends the bedsheet ballot. • Restores majority rule. • Redistricts the Senate on • population basis. • Redistricts the House on O population basis. • Insures redistricting (reapportionment) after every U.S. census. • Places the responsibility for redistricting in the hands of the Secretary of State. The rival reapportionment plan on the ballot —Proposal No. 3—is a fraud. It would deny you equal representation in both the Michigan House and Senate. It is sponsored by the banker-big business associations in the State. Their goal is to stop liberal legislation and to prevent passage of a Corporation Profits Tax which would ease your tax load. W. K. Kelsey, the Detroit News' Commentator, called Pro- posal No. 3 "THE MOST SCANDALOUS FRAUD on democracy ever attempted in the State of Michigan."
