"An American Jewish Press Feature
Boys and Girls:
This weekend we complete the
celebration of our fall holidays.
We will rejoice in the Law on
Simchas Torah. Does your
synagogue observe this day with
the consecration of the little
children who are beginning-their
Jewish education? Here's what
happened to our little friend
Judy- on Simchas Torah .
BLESSING THE CHILDREN
Danny kept turning around in
his seat in the synagogue. "When
are they coming? When are
they coming? Is it time now?"
he kept whispering through the
service.
After long, long minutes,
mother finally said "Now." And
she and daddy couldn't help
turning around to look, too. The
doable doors at the back open-
ed. The choir and the cantor
broke into a song of •welcome.
T'wo • by two they came down
the aisle. The little children.
Some four, some five. The little
kindergarteners just starting out
to learn about Torah. So "yon-
tifdik" they looked. The girls
wore pretty colored dresSes and
hair ribbons. The boys wore neat
trousers and white shirts. Each
of _them carried a little bouquet
of flowers.
Right in the middle of the
girls' line was Judy. She tried to
keep looking forward, but • she
couldn't help peeking from the
corner of her eyes to see mother
and daddy and Danny. When
she found them, she smiled.
They smiled back.
As the children reached the
Bimah, /they laid their flowers
in baskets of greens around the
edge of the altar. It made a
beautiful decoration. Still two
by two, they went to the rabbi,
who touched their heads gently
and blessed them. From the
Bimah, the children went to
their reserved seats in the front
row. Together they -stood and
recited `.`Shema Yisroel," the
first thing they had learned in
religious school. Then the can-
tiqr helped them sing a song .. .
"Father let thy blessing touch
us • . ."
Mother and daddy and Danny
Watched Judy as she stood and
sang with the rest. Then the
rabbi said "May you .be blessed
and consecrated with the bless-
ing of our fathers, Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob and of our
mothers, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel
and Leah."

The Intercongregational
Youth Council will hold its first
meeting of the new season at
Bnai Moshe Synagogue, at 1

all member synagogues are
urged to be present.
Soon the service was over. All
the little children went to meet
their families. Judy knew just
where her parents were sitting.
She ran to mother's open arms.
Mother kissed her, and daddy
kissed her. They were so proud
of their little daughter. Danny
was proud too. "Now you're con-
