Morris Berns Young Israel Max Kaplan Mogen Abraham - Sermons at Shemini Atzeres services tomorrow will conclude a cycle of Holy Day appeals to Detroiters in behalf of the local Yeshivath Beth Yehudah. The campaign to support the work of the Yeshivah began at Rosh Hashanah services. Above are pictures of synagogue' lay- leaders with whose help the drive has become a huge success. The photographs of the following officers and Yeshivah Syn- agogue Council members whose cooperation was given unstinting- ly, were received too late for publication in this issue: Morris Dorn, president, Cong. Beth Tefilo Emanuel; Louis Ellenbogen, president, Cong. Beth Abraham; Abraham Shainak, president, Mishkan Israel; Morris Saham, president, Cong. David Ben Nochum; Isadore Sweet, president, Meyer Freedman, vice- president, Cong. Adas Yeshhurun; Joseph Borenstein, president, Cong. Agudas Israel; Ben Assick, president, Cong. Shaarey Zion; Harry Stolsky, presiden Cong. Beth Yehudah; Sam Nelson, presi- dent, Cong. Nusach Harie; and Louis Levin, vice-president, Cong. Mogen Abraham. At a meeting of directors of the Yeshivah on Sept. 30, held at the invitation of Louis Ellenbogen, president of Cong. Beth Abra- ham, an encouraging report was heard from Morris Snow, lay head of Cong. Bnai Zion, Beth Yehudah, vice-president and chair- man of the Yeshivah Council, on the response to High Holy Day congregational appeals for the support - of the local religious-edu- cational center on Dexter and Cortland. He reported that the following houses of worship dedicated one of the Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur services to an appeal for the Yeshivah: Congregations Beth Moses, Beth Shmuel, Beth Tefilo Emanuel, Bnai Israel, Bnai Jacob, Chesed shel Emes, David Ben Nochum, Mogen Abraham, Ohel Sarah, Young Israel. Additional holiday appeals have already been scheduled for the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah by Congregations Beth Abraham, Bnai• David, Khal Charedim and Shaarey Zion. Contributions pledged at -these and other synagogues, which will join in this year's effort, will make it possible to open new classes at the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah after this weekend to accommodate pupils now on the waiting list. The Board of Directors have authorized a $3,150 increase in the budget of the schools for 1952-53 to meet these requirements, in view of the generous participation of the congregations of the city. It is expected that the results of the 5713 appeals will double the total of preceding years.
