The word "chaver" is a term
used by members of the Labor
Zionist Organization to denote a
brother member. It's literal
translation is "friend." Finding
a chaver in the movement Is
simple, but discovering a chaver
both in and to the movement re-
quires more search. -
Such a chaver is David Sislin,
who for the past several decades,
has devoted much of his time
and dedicated much of his life
to the cause of Labor Zionism.
On his 60th birthday last
month, members of the many
organizations to which Chaver
Sislin belongs—Poale Zion, Far-
band, Jewish Folk Schools, Far-
band Camp and Kinderwelt,
Jewish National Fund, Hista-
drut—joined in paying tribute
to his life long work.
They honored him with
banquet, and seated proudly at
his side was his wife, chavera
Sophie Sislin, who also is a de-
voted worker in the Zionist
cause.
The banquet was tendered by
Arlazaroff Branch 137, of the
Farband, for which -Harry Schu-
mer made the arrangements.
Joining in the festivities were
Abraham Meyerovitz, director of
the Farband Institute, Chicago,
Morris Schaver, Louis Levine and
William Hordes.
