It was on the question of -
education — in her opposition
to the tri-partite school . sys-
tem — that she said, at the
Zionist Congress in 1929: "I
am religious myself, but I do
not believe in the rule of the
priests. School children must
not be drawn into religious
strife." In a dispute over her
social welfare program, she
said: "The Histadruth does not
want its aristocrats to sit on
the same bench with my pro-
letarians."

Miss Szold's biographer tells
the complete story of her affili-
ation with Brith Shalom and
Ihud, the Magnes- sponsored
peace - with - the - Arabs move-
ments. We are told about Miss
Szold's numerous dealings with
all the British High Commission-
ers. There is severe criticism
of Sir Herbert' Samuel and a
condemnation of Sir .Ronald
Storrs, Governor of Jerusalem,
who is described as "Sir Her-
bert's evil genius" and as "a
dillettante idealist."
Miss Zeitlin has written a fine
work. Its tribute to a great
woman is, at the same time, a
tribute to the Hadassah move-
ment she founded and to the
Zionist idea she embraced and
propagated.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard;
consider her ways and be wise.
—Proverbs 6:6.

Americans are "fortunate to
be the moral heirs of the Judaeo-
Christian way of life," Dr. Ever-
ett R. Clinchy, president of the
National Conference of Chris-
tians and Jews, declared in a
New Year's message that wished
peace. freedom and security for
Jews throughout the world.
"In fulfillment of that proud
heritage," Dr. Clinchy added,
"Americans of every religious
belief, Protestant, Catholic and
Jewish, have banded together
in the National Conference of
Christians and Jews to promote
sound intergroup relations and
to strengthen the dignity and
rights of all groups in our social
order."
