He was commissioned a first lieutenant in the Israeli Army in 1948, tak- ing part in all major desert campaigns against the A r a b Legion until 1950. After joining the U.S. Army in Jan., 1951, Gilstein's combat ex- perience was utilized and he was shipped as a cadreman to Camp Edwards, Mass., where he as- sisted in the basic training of new troops. He arrived in Korea the following - August and was assigned to the first Cavalry Di- vision. Mrs. Samued R. Glogower represent- ed Detroit. The European field office will be administered by a field secre- tary and will serve Jewish com- munities and youth groups in France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, England, Norway, Sweden, Den- mark, Finland and in other countries of Western Europe as the need arises. The delegates also made plans for the recruiting and training of professional workers. Louis Kraft, acting general secretary of the World Federation, an- nounced that Fulbright scholar- ships would be available to suit- able candidates in countries which qualify under the Ful- bright Act. Mr. Kraft also re- ported that the Joint Distribu- tion Committee has made a grant of $25,000 toward the financing of the YMHA in Paris. Frank L.
