Cornerstone Laid for New
Hebrew Student Dormitory
JERUSALEM, July 13, (JTA)—
The cornerstone for a student
dormitory at the new Hebrew
University site on the outskirts
of Jerusalem was laid yesterday
The building will contain 80 stu-
dent rooms. a library, a meeting
hall and a restaurant:- •

58 delegates chosen to represent
District Six at the triennial
supreme convention in Washing-
ton next May were Karbal,
■ Aaron Droock. Harry Yudkoff,
Samuel W. Leib, Milton N. Wein-
stein. Maxwell M. Lowe. and Dr.
Lawrence Yaffa. with Victor
Bloomfield, first district alter-
nate.
Lowe. president of the Greater
Detroit Men's Council. led the
delegation. and Alfred H. Boun-
i in. local first vice-president. led
in the singing of the national
anthems. Detroit's group was
praised by the convention for its
fine record in fund-raising,
membership and membership re-,
tention during the past year.
Karbal. an attorney. is a mem-
ber of the Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation board of governors, active
in the Allied Jewish Campaign
and on the board of governors
of the Ann Arbor Hillel Founda-
tion building. In 1945 he helped
organize Harry B. Keidan Lodge
and was its first president.

In 1947 he was elected presi-
dent of the Greater Detroit
Council, and the same year was
appointed District Six Hillel
chairman. Since that time he
has served on and been the head
of many district and national
committees.

newspaper Observators Romanic
published a front page editorial
attack on the Israeli Mapai
newspaper Hapoel Hatzair for
an article holding the Catholic
Church partly responsible in the
death of thousands of Jews dur-
ing the Nazi regime.
The semi-official Vatican paper
recalled a long series of state-
ments by prominent Jewish
leaders praising the Ca t h o l i c
Church for the aid it gave per-
secuted Jews. The editorial also
"deplored" that the Jews in Is-
rael and elsewhere were un-
aware of t h e persecution of
Catholics in -Communist coun-
tries. It concluded with a state-
ment that Christian principles
had guided the Catholic people
and the Church in aiding per-
