Stories 'for
Our Boys
and Girls

Hello Boys and Girls:
How many of you are spend-
ing; • sorne of these summer eve-
nings around a campfire--at a
park. on the beach. or at a sum-
mer camp? After the hot dogs
or the marshmallows are roast-
ed. campfires seem to call for
songs a n d adventure stories.
And I can't think of a better
adventure story to tell than the
old favorite of Jonah and • the
Whale. It goes like this .
• • •
Jonah was a prophet of the
Lord. His great adventure be-
gan when he was aboard a ship
in the middle of the sea. A
great storm arose, and Jonah
was swept overboard. Immed-
iately God caused him to be
swallowed. alive, by a great fish.
The prophet was not afraid.
however, because inside the fish
was a huge stone that shone
brightly. like the sun. Not only
could he see his surroundings.
but he could also see through
the eyes of the fish. into the
sea.
For three days he remained
inside the fish, in comfort. But
in all those three days he forgot
to say his prayers. This made
God anis V. "Here I have saved
Jonah's hf,." God said. and yet
he has not thanked me for it.
Because of this, I'll have him
swallowed by another fish and
inside that fish it won't go so
well with him."
It happened as God willed. A
tremendous whale swam up to
the fish that waa sheltering Jo-
nah and said "God has com-
manded me to swallow up this
man who is inside you Surren-
der him to me or I'll swallow up

"How do I know ,that you
speak the truth?" asked Jonah's
fish.
"Come with me to Leviathan,
the king of all fish. He'll tell
you that what I say is true."
So both fish swam to Levia-
than ann asked him.
- It is true," answered the king
