Fifteen-year-old Chana Gom-
bo, and her husband, Arnold, 28,
both DPs, wind up a glorious
honeymoon as they arrive in
New York under the sponsorship
of HIAS. The honeymooners
met in a DP camp near Salz-
burg, Austria, recently while the
teen-ager, with her father and
her two brothers, were waiting
to emmigrate to the U.S. as a
result of the wedding, Chana's
status as an unmarried minor
immigrating under her father's
assurance, changed. This neces-
sitated special and speedy repre-
sentation by HIAS so that sep-
arate visas would be granted
the newlyweds in order to en-
able them to come over on the
same ship with the bride's fam-
ily.

Russian in Cattle Car
In the days of the Czar, *
Russian conductor was irritated
by the number of Jews on the
train. He grumbled about "too
many Jews" and "no elbow
room for a real Russian."
At the next station he flew
into a rage when he saw an-
other Jew boarding the train.
"You belong in a cattle car,'
he shouted at him.
"I saw you here and took it
for granted that this is the cat-
tle car," the Jewish passenger
replied.

The Old Herring Story
Remember this famous hen.
ring story?
A Jew who kept a delicatessen
store in Paris was visited one
day by a Frenchman, who asked
him why Jews are cleverer than
other people.
"It's because they eat bet..
rings," replied the storekeeper.
The Frenchman was duly im-
pressed, and for the next few
days visited the store regularly
and ate herrings. One day he
entered the store with a puzzled
and seemingly indignant look on
his face.
"Why is it." he inquired of the
delicatessen man, "that you seD
herrings at five francs each
when I can get them down the
street at three?"
"Ha," replied the Jew. - what
did I tell you? You see, it's be ■
ginning to work."

Waste of Money
A rich, but very stingy man,
was asked to contribute for a
new cemetery fence. He refused,
claiming that to build a ceme-
tery fence is a waste of money,
because those who are outside
do not want to go in, _and those
who are inside eannot, get out
anyway. So why erect a fence,
