Suggestions made by the Con-
servative rabbis as to the mini-
mal regulations of Kashruth
were that no meats should be
served unless catered by an ac-
kosher caterer, or
ceptable
catered under proper super-
visit n. and that when meats are
not served, care should be taken
that no prohibited fish or shell
fish, such as shrimp, be served.

the Conservative rabbis did not
adopt a more honest and con-
siste:nt statement."
The Orthodox rabbis attacked
the resolution of the Conserva-
tives for "not clearly asserting
that they will not attend any
function where non-kosher food
is being served." They pointed
out that such statements have
been issued by Orthodox rab-
binic groups in many cities
throughout the country.
The statement continues,
"Furthermore, we do not at all
understand the 'suggestion' that
'when meats are not served,
care should be taken that no
prohibitive fish be served.' We
take this to mean that Conser-
vative rabbis, despite their claim
of loyalty to Jewish law and
tradition. are not sufficiently
consistent, to once and for all
inform the Jewish public that
even permissible fish becomes
trefa when it is prepared under
trefa auspices and served in a
trefa rest aura nt."
