Israel to GM $70,225,000 front U.S.
Under Mutual Security Aid Bill

WASHINGTON, (JTA)—Israel will receive $70,228,000 for
the relief and rehabilitation of Jewish refugees in the com-
promise of the Mutual Security Aid Bill approved by the
Senate-House conference. In addition, Israel will receive
$2,772,000 in technical assistance.
The compromise restored half of the difference between
the Senate and House allocations for Israel. The House had
retained the full amount of $76,000,000 recommended by the
Administration, but the Senate had slashed this amount to
$64,456,000 in general across-the-board cuts. Both Houses
approved the compromise.
NEW YORK, (JTA)—Inclusion of Israel in the Mutual
Security program involves reliance by the United States on
support by the American Jewish community enabling Israel
"to deal with its very difficult problems and to secure its in-
dependence," Rep. Jacob K. Javits told the Mizrachi Wom-
en's Organization here. The American Jewish community,
he said, "must provide 5100,000,000 a year for a period of
another five years," in addition to basic investment in Is-
rael's industry and agriculture through the bond drive.
