Rabbi Wolf Dessler, principal of
the Hebrew Academy in Cleve-
land. will speak on "The Aims
„ The Millerites won out on every test vote by small majorities
... Miller backers were jubilant over what they called a powerful
pro-Miller trend . . . It was the first time in several years that
the Silverites were so triumphant at a ZOA conclave . . . The op-
position however. is minimizing the Miller victory, claiming it had
'merely been outmaneuvered . . . Opposition members privately
charged that the dice were loaded ... They charged that all pro-
Millerites had been rounded up in advance to make sure of their
appearance at the sessions . . . Objective observers of the scene
believe Rabbi Irving Miller is slated to be the next ZOA president
if a three-cornered race cannot be avoided . .. However, there is
talk of a deal between the Redelheim and Shapiro backers . . .
Under such an arrangement one or those candidates would with-
draw from the race and in consideration of throwing his backing
to the other his supporters would be assured of a place on the
executive . . . It means that the withdrawing candidate would be
groomed as future ZOA president with the blessing of the new
administration . . . However, there is a distinct possibility that
Shapiro will not countenance a deal . . . Dewey Stone has been
telline friends that there was mounting sentiment for Shapiro who
intends really going to bat for the office . . . According to Dewey
the pro-Shapiro swing has been growing in numbers and promi-
nence.

Carl Alpert is going to new and greener pastures. The ZOA
director of education for 12 years is settling in Israel where he is
to serve as Technion's director of public relations. Carl of course
is taking along his wife and children. He will maintain his cultural
ties with American Jewry by continuing as contributor to Jewish
periodicals.
By the time this appears in print one of the topnotch officials
with UJA will have resigned to assume the post of fund-raiser

There will be no compromise presidential candidate at the
forthcoming ZOA convention . . . All efforts at resolving the in-

at the convention emerged recently in New York at the closed
