"Look" magazine. with a
readership of 18,000,000, will
publish an article, "What Is a
Jew?", by Rabbi Morris N. Kert-
zer, director of interreligious ac-
tivities for the American Jewish
Committee, in its issue of
June 17.
Rabbi Kertzer, national presi-
dent of the Jewish Chaplains
Association of the Armed Forces,
wrote the article in the form of
answers to 18 questions asked
by "Look" editors. The article
is the twelfth published by
"Look" in the past year on the
role of religion in American life.
Describing Judaism as "really
a way of life," Rabbi Kertzer ex-
plains that there cannot be a
single definition for a Jew.
"A Jew is one who accepts the
faith of Judaism." Rabbi Kertzer
writes. "That is the religious
definition. A Jew is one who,
without formal religious affilia-
tion, regards the teachings of
Judaism—its ethics, its folk-
ways. its literature—as his own.
