USNA Ends Fligh Around the World

Walter Kober happily
gazes toward the Statue
of Liberty for the second
time, as he and his three
small motherless sons
arrive in the United
States to stay, following sxi
a flight that took him
one and a half times
around the world seek-
ing haven. United Serv-
ice for New Americans
and the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee, both
financed by the United
Jewish Appeal, aided the
Sobers to leave Shang-
hai, cross the United
States on the way back
to their native Vienna,
and there make appli-
cation to enter the
United States as dis,
placed persons. Kober
had fled Vienna in 1939 hoping to reach the United States via
Shanghai. but was caught there, with thousands of other Jewish
refugees, by the outbreak of war. Many of these Shanghai refu-
gees have already been re-settled in the United States by United
Service, which is continuing its efforts, with JDC, to arrange for
the immigration of those still waiting for a chance to build new
lives in this country.

'Iron Curtain' Is Violently Anti-Semitic Book

WASHINGTON, (JTA)—A vio-
1 e n t l y anti - Semitic volume,
"The Iron Curtain Over Amer-
ica," is attracting considerable
a ttention here because of the
prestige and former official po-
sition of its author, Prof. John
Beaty, of Dallas, Tex.
Prof. Beaty, who has lectured
in several American universi-
ties, served in the Military In-
telligence during World War II
with the rank of colonel. The
foreword to the book says that
he was one of the two editors of
the top secret G-2 Report which
went to the White House daily.
The book, which denies that
Jesus stemming from East Eu-
rope are descendants of Abra-
ham, Isaac and Jacob, questions
Lsrael's bid for restitution from
Germany and seeks to deny that
the Nazi5.wAerminated most of
European Jewry. The bulk of
East European Jews, according
to Prof. Beaty, escaped ahead
of the Nazis into Soviet Russia.
Some of them today, he said,
may be part of "the Jewish force
on Iran's frontier." Others,
he asserts, "form the hard core
of the new ruling bureaucracy
in satellite countries."
He writes that "in 1948, strong

AK Survey Reveals
Rise of Neo-Nazism

Neo-Nazism has continued to
rise significantly in Germany
during the past year, posing a
serious danger to the Western
democracies, it was revealed in
a report by the American Jew-
ish Committee.
The survey, Progress Report
on Neo-Nazism in Germany,"
prepared by AJC's European
headquarters in Paris, noted the
following trends as indicative of
the continuing resurgence of
Nazism in Germany:

1. The systematic attempt to develop
a neo-Nazi philosophy' palatable to Ger-
man public opinion and able to help
return to power men holding this
philosophy.
2.
The German public's receptivity
to certain ideas of neo-Nazism as meas-
ured in polls taken by the U. S. High
Commissioner's 'office.
3. A gradual return of military men
to the public scene through the growth
of veterans organizations.
4. While professing a neutralist "line"
between East and West, a monthly
magazine not yet two years old, "Nation
Europa," is actually promoting the Ger-
man neo-Nazi philosophy with articles
from such regtilar contributors as Per
Engdahl, Swedish neo-Nazi party head:
Sir Oswald Mosley. British Fascist; Mau-
rice Bardesch, French collaborationist
and anti-Semite, and others who par-
ticipated in or helped the Nazi move-
ment.

Cong. Shsarey Zedek, 20-1
Adas Shalom Synagogue is
fast on its way to becoming the
first champion of the Inter-
Congregational Softball League,
following a lopsided 20 to 1 tri-
umph over Shaarey Zedek last
Sunday. A victory this Sunday
over Bnai Moshe will clinch the
championship. The game will be
played at 1 p.m., at Roosevelt
Field.

A Matter of Choice

Harold Gary, the Broadway
actor who is famous for his
double talk not only in English,
but in Yiddish, too. recently re-
turned to the U.S. from Australia
where he had a leading role in
the musical hit "Oklahoma."
At the close of the final per-
formance of the show, an Aussie
big-wig called Gary aside and
snidely remarked in clipped
Australian tones, "My deah chap,
your performance as "The Per-
sian Peddler" tonight reminded
me of a typical London Jew!"
"Is that so," shot back Gary.
