eo•Heymans Marvel at Detroit's
rowth, Urge Link with Israel

After an absence of 22 years,
wing which they saw Israel
from devastation to state-

ale, and have not stopped mar-
eling over the vast gro th of
troit.
"It is like Israel," Mr- eyman
ested. "We arc seeing developed
esidential areas here that were
ither farmlands or were consid-
red too distant to think of as
art of this great city. Yet the
rowth and expansion contin-

t took decades of struggle and
critice to see the neglected
developed into a flourishing
lantation, but today they are
roud of their labors and of the
.ognition that their pardess is
ne of the best developed in tne
retire land.
Mr. Heyman was graduated
rom, the Mikveh Israel Agricul-
UratSchool. He is a linguist,

nch. Yiddishl and is an au-
ority on citrus growing.
Leo Heyman marvels—by con-
t.—at the affluence of this
d, at the abundance in food
d clothing stores. at the rich-
ess of our soil. But he does
of grumble. While he expresses

regret that more freedom is not
given in Israel to private in-
vestors, and emphasizes that he
is a General Zionist on whose
platform, he maintains, Israel
can prosper, he nevertheless does
not grumble.
"My mother is wrinkled and
walks haltingly, but she is my
mother," he stated with evident
emotion. "Israel is new-born,
yet she is our mother. She suf-
fers and many mistakes are
made in her administration, but
we must continue to love her and
to care for her. Therefore I ab
hor destructive criticism. I pray
for the cooperation of American
Jews. You, our friends in this
great land, are closely linked
with our work. You must con-
tinue to encourage and help us.
We know that we won't fail and
we want you to have the same
satisfaction in creative work
that we enjoy."
Mrs. Leo Heyman echoes her
husband's sentiments. She is
active in child welfare work in
Rishon LeZion and is especially
devoted to the WIZO in her
community. WIZO — Women's
International Zionist Organiza-
tion--is planning to erect a new
building to care for children and
to provide recreational programs
for them. Mrs. Heyman ex-
pressed the hope that she may
enroll support for this program
here.
Mr. Heyman is a member of
the board of the Bnai Brith

Lodge in Rishon LeZion.
carries with him the Bnai Brith
Passport." He has expressed the
hope that he will have an oppor-
tunity to bring Bnai Brith's
greetings to lodges in Detroit
and to witness them in action.
The Heymans have another
son, Dr. Israel Heyman, one of
the chief pediatricians in the
Hadassah hospital in Tel Aviv.
Both sons were born in Detroit.
