Jewish Mother Publishes Poems In Book. Titled 'Devil 's Paint Brushes' A 28-year-old Detroit mother has had her first book of poems published by the Canterbury Press in Cambridge, Mass. Florence Goodman, who start- ed writing poetry when her hus- band entered service in World War II, labored over the enter- prise for a year before submit- ting it for publication. The vol- ume is called "Devil's Paint Brushes," and is on sale at Doubleday Book stores. The young poetess lives with her husband, Calvin. and two youngsters at 18664 Faust. Mr. Goodman is . an engineering graduate from Harvard, and a professor at the Detroit Insti- tute of Technology. While not a Jewish poet, she has included a number of poems on Jewish themes in her first work. One, "A Death," tells of the passing of her_grandmother: The oxygen tent defeated, de- flated, Victorious your purr soul.
