NEW YORK, (JTA) — Eight
books were dropped from its ap-
proved textbook list by the New
York City Board of Education on
the grounds that they contained
derogatory statements about mi-
nority religious and racial
groups.
The board also dropped from
its list of approved books - for

The Gallico book was described
by one board member as "vi-
ciously anti-Semitic." The book
was published in 1938.
