Fascist Fellow Traveler Allen Zoll
Rides Wake of Walter Immigration Bill

WASHINGTON—Allen A. Zoll

bas emerged as a participant in

a campaign now being pushed
by chairman Francis E. Walter
of the House Immigration Sub-
committee to shout down- all op-
position to his Omnibus Immi-
gration Bill.
Zoll, according to an Anti-De-
famation League report, is "in-
extricably bound together" with
Gerald L. K. Smith, - Joseph P.
Kamp, Upton Close and Merwin
K. Hart in a drive for "a way
of life grounded in narrow big-
otry and bounded by malevolent
nationalism."
Under W al ter •s bill. new
Americans or would-be immi-
A
grants who have been convicted
by Nazi courts of violating Nazi
laws would be automatically
barred from the United States:
American citizens may be de-
prived of citizenship, in certain
?I cases, without trial; new
groun d s for denaturalization
and deportation would be made
retroactive to cover all immi-
grants who have hitherto been
admitted to the United States,
and other features would be in-

corporated in the bill which;
Waiter said would "simplify"
immigration statutes.
Zoll, who the ADL has called
a "fascist propagandist and sup-

porter of Father Coughlin, - was
invited to a meeting of organ-

: izations favoring the Walt e r
Bill. The meeting took place
March 18. Zoll joined with ether
participants in a prepared state-
ment which said they were sum-
moned to drait - a declaration
condemning the campaign now
,* being waged. by a small group
Of other organizations against
the Omnibus Immigration and
Naturalization Bills."
Walter has expressed greet
: concern over the infiltration of
I subversives and has said that
his new immigration bill would
. help curb that menace. In fact.,
Walter is quite A Al-informed on
the subject because he is vice-- ;
chairman Of the House Com-
rnittee on Un-American Activi-

ties.
Yet 4011, who is a well-known

fellow traveler of American fa ,3-
cists, somehow infiltrated the
group lobbying on behalf of
Walters immigration bill. Wal-
ter said not a word. Neither did'
Sen. Pat IvIcCarran. chairman of
the Senate Committee on Inter-1
- nal Security, who has cooperated
w i t h - Walter on immigration
matters and introduced a corn-
panion bill in the Senate.
Displaced P e r s o n s Commis-
4 sioner Harry N. Rosenfield said
in a recent speech, "Don t
let's have provisions which could
result in the exclusion of vic-
ims et' political, racial or reli-
tgious persecutions." He asked
t how we could now say whether
At is or is not an offense "if a
: Jew failed to register under

k

enfield's speech, Walter arose in
the House and lashed out in a
rabble-rousing speech attacking
Rosenfield, Dr. Israel Goldstein,
the American Jewish Congress,
and others but expressed agree-
ment with Rep. Clair Hoffman,
an outspokenly anti - Se m i tic
Congressman from M i c h i g a n.
Walter linked the opposition to
his bill with statements against

some Nazd rule." Rosenfield
mentioned "new and unreason-
able grounds for deporting peo-
ple" and said that it is undesir-
able "to deport people who have
been law-abiding residents for
it published in a Communist
50 years."
