4 LaMed, 6 Congress Awards Announced

NEW YORK, (JTA) —The
World Jewish Culture Congress
here announced the winners of
six prizes in painting and Yid-
dish and Hebrew literature for
1951. Four similar awards were
announced by the Louis LaMed
Foundation.
A. M. Fuchs received a 5200
prize for a short story "Night"
published in a Yiddish quarterly
in Israel, while Itzhak Yanaso-
wich of Paris received a $300
prize for his narrative poem "A
House in the Village." The prize
for drama was divided between
H. Leivick of New York for his
"Wedding at Foernwald" and
Israel Aschendorff of Paris for
"King Saul." Ilya Schor of New
York and Johanan Seamen of
Israel received awards for paint-
ing. The painting prizes were
founded by Sara and Abel Sha-
han of Johannesburg.
The Louis LaMed awards, for
$500 each, went to: Abraham
Reisen for his collected poems
in Yiddish which were published
on his 75th birthday; Chaim
Chaus-s for his Yiddish book
"The Prophets"; Dr. Moshe
Davis for his Hebrew book

Fannie Casman Dies in L.A.
MRS. FANNIE CASMAN, 73,
formerly of Detroit, died in Los
Angeles April 4. Surviving are
five sons, three daughters, 20
grand0=Fir and 13 grea t-
grandchildren. Services were
held in Los Angeles.
