April Is 'Launching Month
For Allied Jewish Campaign

April has become Allied Jewish
Campaign launching month in
Detroit as men and women in
the trades and professions,
Women's Division and Junior Di-
vision prepare to open their
phase of the Detroit Jewish com-
munity's major philanthropic
effort.
The Women's Division will
open its campaign at a "Fashion
in Figures" bruncheon for spe-
cial gifts and pre-campaign
prospects at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday,
April 22, at the Sheraton-Cadil-
lac Hotel. Mrs. Joseph M. Welt
is chairman, Mrs. Harry L. Jones,
eo-chairman.
In the mercantile division,
workers and prospects will open
their drive at a dinner, 6:30
p.m.. Wednesday, April 30, at
the Sheraton-Cadillac H o t e 1.
James Wineman is chairman for
this group.
Albert Fruman. chairman of
the mechanical trades division,
will be host to members of his
group at his home at 9566 Carlin,
p.m.. Sunday.
The evening of April 22 will
see the opening of the campaign
for the real estate and building
and food divisions at dinner
meetings at Sheraton-Cadillac.
Daniel A. Laven and Benjamin
Wilk are campaign chairmen for
the real estate men. while
George 13, Keil heads food work-
ers.

The fifth annual special gifts
dinner of the Junior Division
scored its greatest success Sun-
day by raising $17.500 for the
1952 Allied Jewish Campaign,
Avern Cohn, special gifts chair-
man,' announced.
Col. Thomas F. Forrester,
American Marine officer, who
served as military adviser to the
government of Israel, conveyed
his feeling of pride for the
young state of Israel and for the
tremendous upbuilding that her
people have brought about. Ye-
huda Hellman. the other speak-
er, made his audience see the
importance of total Atherican
support of Israel at this time.
Special gifts board members
will report results at the Junior
Division all-day report meeting
Sunday.
To complete organization
and assign slips in the furni-
ture section, Alex Sklar, chair-
man for the group, has called
a meeting for 8 p.m.. Tuesday.

the women's "Fashion in Fig-
ures." are:

A comprehensive study of
Arab-Israel problems will be
undertaken by 17 Christian
leaders who left April I. on a
tour of Egypt, Jordan and Israel.
This is the fifth Study Tour of
the Middle East sponsored by
the American Christian Pales-
tine Committee.
Headed by the Rev. Karl
Baehr, executive secretary of
the committee, the group is
composed of Christian clergy-
men, journalists, educators, and
civic leaders from cities across
America who will study social,
economic, political and religious
conditions in the three Middle
Eastern countries.
Their itinerary includes Rome,
Cairo, the Old City of Jerusa-
lem, Bethlehem, Jericho, and
the environs in Jordan terri-
tory: the New City of Jerusa-
lem. Tel Aviv. Haifa, Nazareth,
and other parts of Israel. Dur-
ing each phase of their trip.
they will meet with government
leaders and with representatives
of their own professions.
The Fourth Anniversary of the
State of Israel will be marked
by the American Zionist Coun-
cil. at a celebration April 29, at
Carnegie Hall. New York.
