Indianapolis Asks Bond

INDIANAPOLIS, (JTA) — An

munity of Indianapolis from the

committee set up to coordinate
aspects of the four-point Israel
aid program said that the com-
mittee had unanimously recom-
mended that the Indianapolis
Jewish community devote itself
exclusively to the campaign of
the Jewish Welfare Federation
from March 1 to June 15 and
that during this period, "there
be no organized effort to sell
bonds for Israel in Indianapolis."
On completion of the federa-
tion campaign, the letter stated,
"all efforts and energies (will be
redirected once again to the
campaign for the sale of bonds
for Israel." The letter voiced the
belief that by following this
plan, "our community will be
better able to discharge its re-
sponsibilities to the utmost." It
ints out that both campaigns

than the general average
throughout the country because
of the coordination arranged be-
tween them.
"There has been an announce-
ment on the national level that
the sale of bonds for Israel is
to continue on an all year-round
level," the letter declared. "We

Four towering columns, only a small portion of which are shown
here, set off the three doors forming the entrance to Adas Shalom
Synagogue, which is to be dedicated in a three-day celebration,
March 28 to 30. Note the symbolism used in the structure: the
bronze Ten Commandments on top of the dome, the name of the
congregation in Hebrew and the nine stone symbols between the
pillars, each characterizing a major Jewish festival and the
Sabbath.
Detroit's newest congregation
to reach completion—Adas Shal-
om Synagogue, formerly North-
west Hebrew Congregation on
Curtis and Santa Rosa— is rich
in the traditional symbolism of
the Jewish people.
Many of the ideas incorporated
by the architects are innova-
tions in a Jewish house of wor-
ship: others are beautifully
created objects of traditional
Judaism.
A striking feature of the build-
ing. whielk- will be dedicated in

gogue's main entrance. At night.

the Ten Commandments can be
seen at a distance.
Inscribed on the curvature
on the outer wall are words
first spoken by the prophet
Zechariah: "Not by might. nor
by power, but by my spirit,
saith the Lord of Hosts."
Above the synagogue doors are
the nine symbols signifying the
Jewish festival days and the
sabbath, and. on the doors, are 24
replicas in frosted glass of the
festive objects of the Jews.
In the foyer is a memorial al-
cove, above which stands a per-
petually burning lamp, a Star of
David, which is framed against
the dome in the ceiling and a
stairway which leads to the bal-
cony. and has a bronze railing
containing inlaid figures of the !
seven-branched Menorah.
The striking note of the syna-
gogue interior is the unusual
seating pattern, which was de-
signed to blend spaciousness with
coziness:- The/ auditorium seats
