Blast Omnibus Bill

Representatives of Detroit's
Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and
Lutheran communities and of
the International Institute ad-
vised the Detroit delegation in
the House of Representatives
that Congressman Francis E.
Walter's (D.. Pa.) Omnibus Im-
migration Bill represents a "de-
parture from fundamental Am-
erican principles, and imposes
arbitrary restrictions on .immi-

gration and residence of refu-
gees seeking sanctuary from be-
hind the Iron Curtain".

The sale of $62,000 worth of bonds at the Israel bond rally at
the Masonic Temple on March 12 boosted the BIG Day bond sales
to S1.16.060. JOEY ADAMS, popular comedian, who headlined the
March 12 program, is shown seated on a table accepting bond
applications. With him are Mesdames THEODORE BARGMAN
and RALPH DAVIDSON. co-chairmen of the women's division, and
MAX OSNOS, Detroit Israel bond chairman. Conviction that Israel
bonds are a safe and secure investment was expressed in a letter
fr , ► rn Leon Kay, Morris Scheyer and Charlie Wolok to Max Osnos,
chairman of the Detroit Israel bond committee.

Churches, in their joint tele-
gram to Congressmen Rabaut,
Lesinski• Machrowicz, O'Brien,
and Dingell, stated that "to
spend millions for the Voice of
America and to deny living proof
that our voice is backed by an
act to encourage world - wide
freedom and democracy would
have our words of heart and en-
couragement t o unfortunate
crusaders for freedom fall on
doubtful ears".
The hastily conceived Omni-
bus Immigration Bill HR 5678
sponsored by Congressman Wal-
ter would bar from admission
to the United States immigrants
who have been convicted by
Communist governments of vio-
lating Communist laws, it is
pointed out. Even Cardinal Min-
dzenty would be barred from
admission to the U.S. under
Walter's bill.
The signers of the joint tele-.
gram suggested that the bill be
recommitted to the House:Com-
mittee for a thorough reconsid-
eration of its contents and im-
plications.
Among other Jewish groups
which signified their opposition
to the bill are the American
Jewish Committee, the American
Jewish Congress, the Anti-De-
famation League of Bnai Brith,
the Jewish Labor Committee, the
Jewish War Veterans, the Na-
tional Community Relations Ad-
visory Council and the National
Council of Jewish Women.

Farband Camp to Hold
23rd Reunion Saturday

Friends and guests of Farband
Camp will attend the 23rd camp
reunion at 9 p.m., Saturday, at
the Labor Zionist Institute,
13722 Linwood.
A special cultural and musi-
cal program is planned, with
color slides and movies of camp
activities being shown. All in-
terested • in summer camping
activities are invited to attend.
Adults are especially urged to
learn of the camp's facilities
and of the Farband Hotel.
which has served thousands of
Jewish families during its 23

years during summer weeks.

The National Committee to

Secure Justice in the Rosenberg

case, Judge Steinbrink said, has
promoted public meetings in
New York and Chicago and has
made a special effort to hold
these meetings in Jewish com-
munal buildings in order to po-
vide a setting for their propa-
ganda line that a Jewish issue
is involved. One of the Chicago
meetings was scheduled to be
held in a temple.
This was cancelled after offi-
cials of the congregation dis-
cussed the problem with ADL
and other Jewish agencies. A

similar meeting planned in New
York is facing fire from the Jew-
ish War Veterans and Catholic
War Veterans, who have lodged
protests with the owners of the
hall for making it available to
the group. Among the scheduled
speakers, the vets charge, are
two avowed pro-Communists.
The New York Post editorially
charged that by "the injection
of the fake charge of anti-Semi-
' tism is a calculated and loath-
some attempt to confuse the
true issue." and warned that "by
