Trained Volunteers BIG Day volunteers in De- troit were prepared for action in a unique training program or- ganized by Mrs. Alexander W. Sanders and James I. Ellman, co-chairmen of the sales train- ing committee, who planned a series of nine sales training meetings held at the Jewish War Veterans Memorial Bldg. Every volunteer was required to attend one of the meetings, designed to explain the techni- calities involved in selling state of Israel bonds and the correct procedures for recording bond subscriptions. The co-chairmen praised the efforts of committee members, Mesdames Samuel S. Aaron, Max Fried, Samuel Cross, Carl Schil- ler, Henry Berris and Irving Lipson; Messrs. Samuel Leib, Harry Yudkoff, Morris Jacobs and Al May. Message from Weizmann An important message to American Jewry, on the occasion of BIG Day, was received by Henry Morgenthau, chairman of the board of the Israel Bond Issue; from Dr. Chaim Weiz- mann, President of Israel. Dr. Weizmann cabled from his home in Rehovoth: 'National BIG Day March 9 for bond drive is an appropriate occasion to express satisfac- tion with the strides made by the State of Israel during the Past three years, particularly its ng industrial growth and striki the ,increasing develepoment of its natural resources. "During these years of test our peoPle have shown again their %capacity for work endurance and sacrifice. I am continually heartened a n d encouraged by evidence of the 'unfailing c o n- cern of Ameri- c a n Jewry for Israel's progress and welfare Dr. Weizmann which has been demonstrated afresh by the wonderful response to Israel's need for investment capital through the independence bond issue. "I regard the bond issue as the climax of the joint efforts of American Jewry and the people of Israel to cement the estab- lishment of the Jewish state by ensuring its economic security and independence. "I am confident that on na- tional BIG Day the American Jewish community will mobilize its strength on an unprecedent ed scale to bring the story of Israel bonds and their meaning into tens of thousands of Amer- ican homes.
