Detroit Organizations Mobilize
Forces for Sale of Israel Bond

Max Osnos, chairman. of the
Detroit Israel bond committee,
this week issued a call for vol-
unteer workers to assist in vis-
iting every Jewish family in the
community in an intensive one-
day campaign to obtain sub-
scriptions to Israel's $506,000,-
000 bond issue on BIG (Bonds of
the Israel Government) Day,
which will be held on Sunday,
March 9.
BIG Day will mark the official
opening in Detroit of the 1952
drive for State of Israel Bonds,
whose national objective is the
sale of $200,000,000 in these
bonds during the current year.
In the first eight months after
the inception of the drive on
May 1, 1951, more than $101,-
000,000 in Israel Bonds were sold.

"Why not
a
PARENT—training

"The people of Detroit have /
repeatedly indicated their
readiness to invest in Israel's
bond issue," Mr. Osnos stated,
in his call for- volunteers. "We
want to give them the oppor-
tunity to do so on BIG Day.
To accomplish this purpose,
we will need the help of large
numbers of men and women
who will give their time• on
March 9 to make sure that
every home in Detroit is cov-
ered."

program?"

My father wants me to be President!
Maybe he isn't serious but I'm sure he wants
me to grow up to be a good citizen. Pop is
certainly not setting me a very good example.

Mr. Osnos emphasized the
key role that volunteer workers
will play in the BIG Day effort.
"The public - spirited men and
women who contribute their
time and effort on BIG Day will
mean the difference between
success and failure," he stressed.
"These people constitute the
link between our Israel bond
campaign headquarters and the
people of Detroit. With their
help, we shall make our drive
on Mardi 9 outstanding in the
history of our city's communal
activities."
Detroit's BIG Day on March 9
is part of a nation-wide - one-
day drive taking place on that
date, Mr. Osnos reported.
Throughout the nation, he indi-
cated, thousands of volunteer
workers will go from door to
door to enlist their neighbors in
the mobilization of American
capital for Israel's industrial
and agricultural development.
The ultimate goal of the BIG
Day drive, Mr. Osnos pointed
out, is to speed Israel's progress
toward economic independence
by swelling the total of Israel
bond sales throughout America.

The other day I heard him tell Mom that
he had turned a man down for a job
in his office because he was of a different
religion. Mom's just as bad. I heard
her tell my sister not to play with the little
girl next door because she isn't as good as
we are. What's this business all about?
Where I came from they told me everybody
was free and equal.

I think if Pop and Mom want me to grow up to
be a happy, decent human being they had
better sharpen up. Everybody talks
about child training ... I really think we
need a Parent Training program too!

Don't get me wrong. I love my Mom and Pop,
but I'm afraid they just don't think,
Prejudice can hurt everybody even the
people who spread it!

Say, do you think I'd have a chance at
the Presidency?

Vice-chairmen and captains
for the BIG Day campaign met
Tuesday to discuss plans for
carrying out the intensive drive
to bring the Israel bond story
into every Jewish home in De-
troit.
Each of the captains assumed
responsibility for recruiting 10
BIG Day bond salesmen.

The campaign time table
calls for the first captains' re-
port meeting, on the number
of volunteers enrolled, on Feb.
19, and a final captains' re-
port meeting on Feb. 26.

Last week presidents and bond
chairmen of the member organ-
izations of the League of Jew-
ish Women who met at the
Zionist House agreed to partici-
pate in BIG Day and made
plans' for enlisting their mem-
bers as volunteers in the one-
day drive to help Israel achieve
economic independence.
