This affair was another step
in helping defeat the dreaded
Polio . . . and as a result will
help more children to w a 1 k

the Michigan Catholic . . .
"MEAT FRIDAY 'KOSHER'

article pertains to Catholics

the difficult rationing situa-

SELMA NEIMAN SCHRUT is
the young gal whose exhibit of
paintings are now being shown
at the Coronet Theater . .
Twelve of her best contemporary
art works are on display . . .
and the 23-year-old wife of Dr.
Al Schrut is already being tagged
with the word, "genius" . .
She is a graduate of Wayne U.
Art School . . and an art
teacher for the Board of Educa-
tion . . . But Selma continues to
pursue her own career in paint-
ing . . having been, literally
speaking, born with a paint
brush in her hand.

REFERRING BACK to our
recent item on the subject, it
is brought to mind that Dr.
Noah E. Aronstam was chair-
man of the huge meeting at
Cass Tech . . . celebrating the
Tri - Centennial Anniversary of
Spinoza . . .and spearheaded the
request to the Common Council
and Mayor Frank Murphy that
a street be named after the
great Jewisl- philosopher . .. a
request that was granted . . .
Also, through Dr. Aronstam's
initiative, a bust of Spinoza will
soon be unveiled in Detroit.

COMIC JOEY ADAMS, who
may appear here with Al Kelly,
April 20, for the big Yeshivath
Beth Yehudah dinner at the
Latin Quarter, has written sever-
al volumes of reminiscences, gags
and fiction ("From Gags to
Riches" and "The Curtain Never
Falls"), usually tells his audi-
ence, "My t, 00ks are selling like
hot cakes. I wish they were
selling like books." . . When
Joey first brought his manu-
scrip' to the publisher, he was
asked in a teasing way, "Would
you like your book bound in
Morocco?" . . . "so," sa:d t-ey,
"I'd like it bound here in New
York" . . . Incidently, the Lind
Brothers have already b e e n
signed for the Yeshivah affair
.. and "name" band is being
contacted.

REPORTER GERSHON STERN
attended a recent banquet given
by _ a local organization in the
city, at which one of the guests
was an Ene-' --Ilan wearing a
monocle . . . Following the af-
fair, a sweet old lady walked
over to he British Isles visitor
and began a conversation with
him . . . Gershon says that the
only thing he actually heard
was the lady saying, "But is it
fair to your other eye?"

THE GALS OF Business and

100 new members . . . at their

THE LONG YEARS OF wait-
ing paid off in dividends for
Ann Hoffman, last week, when
son, Melvin, was Bar Mitzvahed
and then honored in the evening
at Bel-Aire . . . The pride of a
mother was so great that Ann
invited everyone present to at-
tend Melvin's marriage ... The
13-year-old lad looked up sud-
denly and, in surpriSed tone,
muttered, "Huh? Me?"
JUNIOR HADASSAH girls are
happy about their successful
Blind Date Square Dance, held
recently, but are going to take
a few more precautions next
time , . . They had a pretty
good record in "fixing up" over
48 gals, but some of the answers
they got from fellows weren't
so funny. . . . One gent said he
would be very happy to attend
but didn't think his wife and
daughter would let him . . .
Another said his draft board
came first and he was leaving
before the dance "for KP duty
in the Army" as he put it .. .
The girls seemed to have erased
the adage that "Blind dates are
wonderful for people who can't
see!"

closed that, ac-
cording to the

a sellout is pre-
dicted for the
annual dinner
to be held April
20, at the Latin
Quarter.
Freedland
Freedland, ticket chairman of
the event, announced that this
year's dinne is 'experimental
in the sense that kashruth and
traditional Jewish customs will
be combined with excellent food
and fine entertainment in an
attempt to prove to the corn-
munity that following Jewish
customs will, if anything, pe an
attribute and not a detriment to
such a huge affair."
Dan Laven, co-chairman of
the event with Freedland, said
a committee is currently seeking
"big-name entertainers" to pro-
mote the dinner and the cause
of the Yeshivah.
