Warning to
Detroiters
To Watch
Racketeers

During the past few weeks,
Detroit homes and business
offices have been flooded with
solicitations for advertisements
by New York magazines which
either do not circulate here or
do not publish regularly.
In the instance of the major
offender, whose dishonest ap-
proach of sending bills, for un-
authorized ads is being investi-
gated by proper authorities, it
has been established that the
paper thus far has printed only
one issue for the advertisers.
We warn again against this
outrageous racket. We urge those
receiving soliciting letters with
bills to forward them to us to-
gether with the- envelope in
which they appeared in order
that they be presented to the
proper authorities for action.

Gallup Poll Shows
Public Approves
Mixed Marriages

NEW YORK, (AJP) — More
than half of the American public
queried in a cross-section poll
endorsed inter-marriage between
Jews and Christians, a national
public opinion expert claims. '
But George Gallup, director of
the American Institute of Public
Opinion, was quick to add that
"only four in every ten voters
think such a marriage has a
good chance of turning out suc-
cessfully." Among those quizzed,
Gallop reported," young people
take the tolerant view."
Apparently limited to Protes-
tants and Catholics—no Jewish
breakdown of voters was listed
anywhere in the survey report—
the poll showed 54 per cent of
those questioned as favoring
inter-marriage, whether it be
between Protestants and Cath-
olics or Jews and Christians. An
estimated 35 per cent were re-
corded in opposition by Gallup
while 11 per cent were listed as
expressing no opinion.
Protestants polled voted 52 to
37 per cent in favor of inter
marriage, while with Catholics
the division was 50 to 32 per
cent.
The laymen opinions were in
sharp contrast with a recent
survey among the clergy of
major faiths. There, a poll show-
ed, unanimous opposition to in-
ter-marriage was recorded.
