N.Y. Hapoel Hatnizrachi
Leader to Speak Here
The Hapoel Hamizrachi to-
gether with the League for Re-
ligious Labor is sponsoring a
series of public meetings to ac-
quaint the Detroit Jewish com-
munity with the ideology, pro-
gram and work of the religious
labor movement in Israel.
David Beth Aryeh, member of
the Executive of the Jewish
Agency in New York, first speak-
er, will be followed by Dr. Israel
Schorr, rabbi of Cong. Beth El
in Boro Park, N. Y., for the past
20 years.
Rabbi Sehorr has served
Hapoel Hamizrachi as president
of the Boro Park Chapter, and
later for two successive terms as
national president. Currently he
is honorary vice-president of the
national council. Rabbi Schorr
holds a PhD degree from Colum-
bia University.
The meeting will take place
on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at
Beth Shmuel Synagogue, Dexter
and Buena Vista. The public is
invited. There will be no admis-

Holiday Spirit Fills the Air, As
Detroiters Proclaim Brotherhood
A Dexter shop owner, not
knowing of the existence or
purpose of the Detroit Round
Table of Catholics, Protestants
and Jews, is serving the ideals of
Brotherhood, and, according to
Theo Saver, of the Round Table,
has provided "an extra dividend
to our Brotherhood efforts."
Mrs. Shirley Raf, proprietor
of the Small Fry Fashion Shop
on Dexter decided to observe
both Hanukah and Christmas,
since both holidays fall, this
year, at the same time.
In her windows are reproduc-
tions of two living rooms, one
decorated with a Christmas tree
with bundles underneath it, the
other showing a fireplace with
glowing Menorah, with gifts
heaped here, too, in the Jewish
custom.
In both rooms are mannekin
children smiling greetings to
each other, with a banner in
the background bearing the
message, "In the spirit of Broth-
erhood. Merry Christmas and
Happy Hanukah."
The economic loss due to Alco-
holism in Detroit is estimated at
$22,000,000 annually. .
