AZA to Hold Regional Convention
Here; Seminars, Workshops Planned

"Using Community Resources"
Will be the theme of the re-
gional AZA convention to be
held in Detroit from Dec, 23 to
Dec. 26, Mort Demak, Aleph
Godol (president), of the Mich-
igan Regional AZA Council an-
nounced. The keynote address
will be given on Dec. 23 at the
Woodward Jewish Center by Dr.
Joseph Fauman, of the Jewish
Community Council.

Ilebrew Professors
Tti Meet on Dee. 27

The National Association of
Professors of Hebrew will hold
its annual meeting at Union
Theological Seminar y. New
York. on Dec. 27. Prof. Abra-
ham I. Katsh of New York Uni-
versity is president. Louis Pan-
ush, who teaches coures in He-
brew at Wayne University, is a
member of the executive com-
mittee. The association's latest
report is that its membership
now numbers 45, representing 30
colleges and universities.
The convention program in-
cludes an address by the presi-
dent, a report on membership
by Prof. Shlomo Marenof of
Brandeis University, an address
on "Relationship Between Mod-
ern and Biblical Hebrew" by
Prof. Cyrus H. Gordon.
The sessions will conclude
with a dinner at the Jewish
Theological Seminary.

In addition to being active in
the Detroit Round Table, Mr.
Simons serves in an advisory
capacity to the Detroit Urban
League and the Mayor's Inter-
racial Committee, as associate
4w-chairman of the memorial gifts
committee of Greater Detroit
Hospital Fund, is on the board
of directors of the United Foun-
dation, Jewish Home for Aged,
Sinai Hospital, United Commun-
ity Services, National Founda-
tion for Infantile Paralysis,
Temple Beth El, honorary mem-
ber of Jewish War Veterans
board, vice-president of Detroit
Historical Commission and many
other civic endeavors.
Two Michigan Brotherhood

umnist for The Detroit News.

Seminars and workshops on Dec.
24 and 25, will develop the major
theme. Leaders will be Mrs. Beu-
lah Whitby, of the Mayor's Inter-
racial Committee; Mrs. Irving
Epstein, of the Jewish Com-
munity Center; R,a, b b i Moses
Lehrman, of Bnai Moshe Syna-
gogue; Julius Weinberg, of the
Jewish Community C o u n c i 1;
Beryle Walters. Greater Detroit
Bnai Brith Council BBYO chair-
man; and James Senor, of the
Jewish Center.
Topics to be developed by
these community leaders will
pertain • to the use of com-
munity resources in chapter
programming iti " the areas of
community relations, recreation
and social, religious, cultural,
community service and Bnai
Brith programming.
Chapters in Detroit, Windsor,
Benton Harbor, Saginaw, Mid-
land, Bay City, Pontiac, Flint,
Grand Rapids and Lansing will
be represented, and out-of-town
visitors will be housed by local
BBYO members.
Other major • events of the
convention will be the regional
basketball and oratory competi-
tion, Hanukah ceremonies,
bowling, ping pong, pool and
swimming, most of the events
to be held at the Woodward
Center.
A social will be held on Dec.
24 at the Pythian Temple, on
Wyoming, with Iry Fields and
his orchestra pr o v i d i n g the
music.
The culminating event will be
a banquet, at Zacks Caterers on
Dec. 26, at which newly-elected
officers will be installed.
Assisting in planning the, con-
vention is Ed Simon, regional
AZA council advisor. Sub-com-
mittee chairman are Ray Kalef
and Frank Zweig, social pro-
grams; Leonard Rachmiel, pub-
licity; Howard Goldberg, ban-
quet; Marshall Robbins, hous-
ing; Norman Bolton, basketball;
Jim Direnfeld, ping-pong and
pool; Jerry Schreiber, registra-
tion;. and Jason Goode, semin-
ars and workshops.

For Donor at $10,000

Aid fund raising luncheon, an-
nounces that the 18th annual
affair will be held Monday, at
12:30 p.m. at the Statler Hotel.
A goal of $10,000 has been set
by the group to supply medical
care to underprivileged patients.
Neugarten works in conjunc-
tion with the North End Clinic,
Harper Hospital outpatient de-
partment and the Jewish Social
Service Bureau.
