Detroit Pledges $300'000 Towards

the executive board of the De-
troit Israehllistadrut Campaign.
The carnpaign . will be laun-
ched Sunday. evening, Jan. 6,
at Temple Israel. Prominent na-
tional speakers will address the
rally. Sidor Belarsky will head_
the musical program.
A series of fortnightly Sun-
day. bruncheons and rallies, de-
voted to clarification'of the cur-
rent tasks Of Histadrut and prac-
tical aspects of the campaign,
will be held at the Labor Zionist
Institute during the campaign
months. Members of Histadrut
delegations from Israel will be
among those who will address
the rallies.

modore Hotel, New York,
pledged '$300,000 as the mini-
mum quota Detroit will raise
towards the $10,000,000 quota
for 1952 adopted at the con-
vention. •
A check for $25,000 was pie-
sented by Harry Schumed at the
convention as a token payment
on the 1952 Detroit campaign
goal.
Detroit Jewry will be honored
by a visit from one of the great-
est living scholars, Prof. Martin
Buber, who will be here as spe-
cial guest of the Detroit Friends
of the Jewish Theological Semi-
nary of America, and will lec-
ture at 8 p.m., Wednesday, at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek- on "Dia-
logue Between Heaven a n d
Earth." (See Commentary, Page
2).
Prof. Buber, who earlier this
month announced his retirement
from Hebrew University, is in
the United States as'visiting pro-
fessor of philosophy of the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary. Prof.
Buber taught social philosophy

Israel Emissary Describes Women's
Role in Land's Defense, Upbuilding
In a stirring address to the
audience of 3,500 in the Ma-
sonic Temple on Monday eve-
ning, at the annual donor event
of pioneer Women, Mina Rogo-
zik, who holds the rank of Lieu-
tenant-Colonel in the Israel
Army, told of the part women
must play in the defense and
upbuilaing of the new state.
Announcement was made at
the rally that the Pioneer
Wornen had raised the sum of
$52,0,00 during the current
fund-raising campaign.
Miss Rogozik stated that in
a land where there is a short-
age of manpower, it has become
necessary to draft women for
two years into the army, to
prepare them for defense of Is-
rael•which constantly is threat-
ened with attacks by Arabs:
"We must teach our women to
fight and to work on the land,"
Miss Rogozik_ said. "It is a vital
necessity to our existence.

Thou", "Prophetic Faith" . and
"Moses." .
Four consetvative synagogues,
Adas Shalom, Beth Aaron, Bnal
Moshe and Shaarey Zedek, are
co-sponsoring Prof. Buber's ap-
pearance. The lecture is open to
the public. A large audience of
Jews and non-Jews is expected.
