elected by the Knesset Mon-
day by a vote of 85 to 11.

Selma Lesser Named
JVS Intake Worker

Selma Lesser, formerly super-
visor and intake worker of the
Jewish Employment and Voca-
tional Service of St. Louis, has
been appointed intake worker
and counselor of the Jewish Vo-
cational Service of Detroit, Rob-
ert N. Janeway, JVS president,
has announced.
Prior to joining the staff of
the St. Louis . agency in 1946,
Miss Lesser spent eight years as
interviewer and supervisor for
the St. Louis branch of the Mis-
souri State Employment Service.
Jewish Vocational Service, ap-
proved by the National Voca-
tional Guidance Association, is
a non-fee-charging vocational,
educational guidance and job
placement agency, with facili-
ties for aptitude testing and re-
search on occupational informa-
tion and resources for .scholar-
ship loans and grants.

Hadassah Plans Minyan, Activities

Under the chairmanship of
Mrs. Daniel Siegel, the Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah is prepar-
ing activities for its minyan pro-
ject, which begins in December.
WS. Harry J a f fa and Mrs.
Aaron Kurland are co-chairmen.
According to Mrs. Siegel min-
yan is a function of Youth Ser-
vices and Youth Aliyah, where-
by 10 women each pledge $24 a
piece for the year to care for a
child in Israel. The pledge is
payable outright or in monthly
installments.
Youth Aliyah resettles and re-
habilitates orphaned children,
while Youth Services embraces
comprehensive vocational guid-
ance courses to prepare these
youths to contribute their capa-
bilities to the growth and pro-
gress of Israel. Hadassah main-
t a i n s 230 agricultural settle-
ments and institutions through
which '70,000 youngsters have
been nurtured and trained.
A fashion s.h o w of Israeli
gowns, created in a school of
fashion design. in Israel, which
is maintained by Hadassah, will
be flown here especially for the
culminating event on Jan. 22.
The last of the Goldie Adler
series, "Jewish Portraits at High
Noon," will be given at 10 a.m.,
Tuesday, in Cong. Shaarey Ze-
dek. Mrs. Adler's subject will be
"Moses Maimonides — Guide to
the Perplexed." •
