MUmford's field hockey team
made a grand exhibit of its
ability at its opening game last
week when the gals tied Mac-
kenzie High's reserve team.
Score one to one. Everyone is
proud of the fine showing.
A fond farewell was bid to the
publication room last week as
the Mumford Mercury staff con-
ceded its right to the room to
the coming freshman class. The
staff, with dust rags in hand,
cleaned up the large storeroom
next door and moved in. "
Latin Club members spent an
hour at a favorite pastime—
charade's and other like games
at its last meeting.
The first subject in the order
of business at a meeting of the
Broadcasting Club was election
of officers. Burt Stillman was
elected president, with Marsha
Glass, veep and Ghinda Fried-
enberg, secretary - treasurer. A
motion carried at the meeting
called for members to learn
Parliamentary procedure as well
as radio technique at future
meetings.
Mumford's two new corre-
spondents to Jane Lee's high
school news column in The De-
troit News are Sharon Kass and
Judy Jacobs. Both girls will at-
tend a - tea with other contribu-
tors to this teen-age column.

Rabbi Einhorn to Teach
Class in Modern Hebrew

horn's . weekly Bible course fol-
lowing Minhah services at 4:30
p.m., Saturday and a class at 8
p.m7., Tuesday in Modern Hebrew
for Beginners.
Religious school will meet at
9:30 a.m., Sunday, in the syna-
gogue, and the adult division
will see "The Deluge," a sound
film at 10 a.m. A meeting of the
youth group will be held at 7:30
p.m., Tuesday, with Rabbi Ein-
horn answering questions, and
Stanley Levine presiding.

Center to Begin Dancing,
Bridge and Chess Classes

bridge and . ballroom dancing and
the start of a chess clubs were
announced by the Young Adult
Department of the Jewish Com-
munity. Center. Activities will
take place in the Woodward
Cuter.
Ballroom dancing and chess
club will start at 8:30 p.m. on
Thursday. Dancing is under the
direction of Charles Doan. The
contract bridge course will be-
gin at 8 p.m., Dec. 3, with in-
struction for advanced players.
Louis J. Cohen will be the in-
structor.

East Side Bnai Brith
To Hold Joint Meeting

A. meeting of the East Side
Men's and Women's Chapters, of
Bnai Brith, will be held at Beth
Itzchock Synagogue, 3836 Fisher
Avenue at 8:30 p.m., Monday.
A program of films, followed
by .a quiz forum and varied en-
tertainment has been planned
by Gertrude Reifman, program.

Junior Hadassah, assisted by

leader of Wayne University Hillel
Foundation, will give informa-
- ton on Jewish customs and
ceremonies, at a meeting at the
Davison Jewish Center, at 8 p.m.,
Tuesday.

Student Exchange, a yearly
Central practice, has again
proven successful, this time with
Mackenzie. The '10 Centralites,
all members of the Sportsman-
ship Council or the Student
Council, who participated in
this year's exchange program
were: 'Murray Janower, Mark
Rubenstien, .Bob Marans, Shar-
on Linden, Sandra Gales, Mary
Gerber, Beverly Ribiat, Art Van-
der, Rona'W ein gar te n, and
Helene Viedrah. Twelve other
students, including Mel Fish-
man, president of the Sports-
manship Council, and Sally
Kornwise, Student Council pres-
ident, both of .whom arranged
the exchange, remained at Cen-
tral and acted as hOsts to the
10 Mackenzie visitors. The ex-
change students spent the day
visiting classrooms and student
projects.
The 12A class began its or-
ganization by electing officers.
All 12B officers: Guy Barron,
president; Mark Rubenstien,
vice-president; Winifred Gold-
berg, secretary; and Carl Levin,
treasurer, were re-elected.
Elaine Casden celebrated her
"Sweet Sixteen" with a luncheon
at the Lee Plaza last Saturday.
Those preSent, besides relatives,
were Bev Cohen, Lois Axelrod,
Sara Million, , Eleanor Blau,
Elaine Blau, Lillian Rosenbloom,
Betsy Brown, Harriet Cohen,
Rosalyn Marchel, Jane Lipsky,
and Francine Seidman.
The Parents Association is
having a tea for all the mothers
of Central students on Nov. 27,
Mrs. Perlmuter, re-elected presi-
dent, mother of Alan Perlmuter,
urged all Centralites to invite
their parents.

Franklin Zwieg Wins
1951 Spevakow Award

The Marvin B. Spevakow
award for outstanding religious
activities during the past year
was presented to Franklin Zwieg
on behalf of Samuel Gompers
AZA at the AZA Sabbath on
Nov. 9.
The chapter, under the guid-
ance of President Zweig, con-
ducted many Sabbath services
and presented a Purim Spiel.

Barry Elias, the chapter is plan-
ning a celebration for Hanukah
which will be- held at Congrega-
tion Bnai Moshe.

Dr. Morris Weitz in England
On U. S. Fulbright Grant

Prof: Morris Weitz, a member
of the faculty of Vassar College,
is currently in England as the
holder of a senior research grant
in the U. S. Fulbright scholar-
ship program.
Dr. Weitz is doing research in
contemporary philosophy at Ox-
,f o r d University. For previous
work at Oxford, the University
awarded him an honorary mas-
ters degree.
Dr. Weitz was received and
entertained at a. reception given
at the United States Embassy in
London, following a tour of Eng-
land last summer.
The author of "Philosophy and
the Arts, "Dr -. Weitz is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. A. Weitz, of
2116 Oakman Blvd.

Student of Chajes to Play
Concert Series in Greece

Estelle Pappas, pianist, w h o
studied with Julius Chajes, mu-
sic director of the Jewish Corn-
munity Center, has been en-
gaged for a series of piano re-
citals in Greece. Her first con-
cert will take place in Athens

on Thursday.

dents received the long awaited
results of the Unity Forum elec-
tions. The group is fortunate to
have as its president, Winnie
Ledger, four time member of the
Merit Corps, and an eligible Vic-
tor. Lois Feldstein will serve • as
Veep and Ronald Moogerman,
Eugene Loren, and Rose Ber-
man as treasurer, secretary, and
publicity manager, respectively.

ent players. Among the many
students present at the tryouts
