Opposing the appointment
of an American Ambassador
to the Vatican, the delegates
urged President Truman to re-
consider the nomination "in
the interests of fundamental
American Democratic prin-
pies and of inter-religious har-
mony and accord in this coun-
try."

The convention also affirmed
its "firm and abiding faith in
the continued security of Ameri-
can Jews under American free-
dom" and in U. S. Jewry's capa-
city to develop a "deeply mean-
ingful Jewish Life" in this coun-
try. It affirmed its belief that
the conditions of American free-
dom offered the opportunity for
American. Jews to contribute
fully to the shaping of American
life and culture. The resolution
also called for maximum support
for the United Jewish Appeal,
and the Israel bond drive.
