WASHINGTON—On the eve
of the 13th anniversary of Nazi
Germany's first pogrom against
the Jews, a delegation of Amer-
ican Jewish leaders visited Un-
der Secretary of State James E.
Webb and informed him that the
Jewish communities of the free
world were united in demanding
that Germany make practical
amends for the staggering ma-
terial losses inflicted upon Jewry
by the Hitler regime.
Presenting a declaration sign-
ed by 20 major Jewish organi-
zations of seven countries, in-
cluding seven American central
bodies, which sponsored a two-
day Conference on J e wish
Claims Against Germany in New
York last month, the delegation
told Mr. Webb that "no indem-
nity, however large, can make
good the destruction of human
life" wrought by the Nazis.
At the same time it was stated
on behalf of the delegation that
".every elementary principle of
justice and human decency re-
quires that the German people
shall, at the least, restore the
plundered Jewish property, in-
demnify the victims of persecu-
tion, their heirs and successors,
and pay for the rehabilitation of
the survivors."
Sir ERNEST MacMILLAN, the
distinguished conductor of -,the
Toronto Symphony, will appear
at Masonic Auditorium on Nov.
