Detroiter Reconstructs Life of
Commodore Uriah P. Levy in Novel

The life of Commodore Uriah P. Levy (1798-1852) , fa-
mous Jewish Naval officer, is reconstructed by Sol Blum-
rosen, Detroit attorney, in a novel published this week under
the title "End of the Rawhide." The title is derived from one
of Commodore Levy's most interesting accomplishments—
passage by Congress of an act banning flogging in the Navy.
The story of Commodore Levy will be reviewed at length
in next week's issue of The Jewish News.
