Folk Chorus Planning
Events for 27th Year
.
The Jewish Folk Chorus has
completed plans for two major
events for their 27th year.
The first will be their mid-
winter concert at the Detroit
Institute of Arts auditorium on
Dec. 16 when a program of folk
songs will be presented.
The 11th annual donor lunch-
eon sponsored by the women of
the chorus will be on Jan. 22, at
the Mayfair Room.
The following have been ap-
pointed to act on the donor

Attendance at Opera Festival
This reproduction of a panel containing bookplates of in-
dividuals and Jewish communal organizations is part of the port-
able exhibit of 9 panels and 95 Jewish books being made available
on loan to Jewish communities by the National Jewish Welfare
Board-sponsored Jewish Book Council of America, The panels
contain photographs of contemporary American Awish authors
and "masters of modern Jewish literature." Others show illumina-
tions • from medieval and Renaissance prayer books, Haggadahs
and scrolls. Two, contain book plates from the collection of Philip
Goodman, secretary of the Book Council.

ALBERT GREEN was re-elect-
ed to serve as chairman of Dis-
trict Four, Detroit Area Council,
Boy Scouts of America, at the
annual meeting of the group,
held Oct. 25. Awards were pre,
rented to several prominent peo-
ple and leaders in the Boy Scout
and youth -movements in the
city. Mayor Albert E. Cobo was
given a trophy by the Philmont
Scout Ranch for his contribution
to boys' activities.

MRS. SOL ROGERS, of Balti-
more, has been appointed na-
tional chairman of the Torah
Fund of the National Women's
League, the association of 500
Conservative Jewish sisterhoods
affiliated with . the United Syna-
gogue of America, according to
Mrs. Emanuel Siner, League
president.
More than 2,000 Jewish women
of DetrOit have received per-
sonal letters. from Mrs. Lewis B.
Daniels, urging , thein and their
families - to attend the Detroit
debut of the New York City
Opera Company.
Under the auspices of the De-
troit Grand Opera AssOciation,
seven performances will be
given in Masonic Auditorium,
beginning Nov. 13, and ending
Nov. 18, with a Sunday matinee.
Mrs. Daniels is chairman of
junior hostesses for USO. She
was last year's president of De-
troit Section, National Council
of Jewish Women. She serves
on the board of the Women's
Division of the Jewish Welfare
Federation and is a board mem-
ber of the Jewish Social Service
Bureau.

Juice Co., has been elected a
member of the executive com-
mittee of the American Jewish
Committee.
At a family dinner given in
the home their daughter, Mrs.
Charles Cohen, of 3784 Cortland,
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Turkel
celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Turkel were
married Sept. 24, 1901 in Austria,
and shortly afterward left for
North America - where they es-
tablished residence in Canada.
In 1924 they moved to Detroit,
and have been permanent resi-
dents here since. The Turkels
have one daughter and two
grandchildren. Out of town
guests attending the celebration
were from New York, Pittsburgh,
Los Angeles, Toronto and Kitch-
ner, Canada.
Holland was the home of free-
dom of the press in the early
16th century.

Council Delegate Assembly to Discuss
MacIver Report at Meeting on Nov. 17
Good Councilmen like Edward
The Jewish Community Coun-
cil announces a city-wide dele-
gate assembly will be held Nov.
18, at 2 p.m., for the single pur-
pose of discussing and evaluat-
ing the recently published "Re-
port on Jewish Community Re-
lations Agencies" Section I by
Professor Robert M. Maclver.
The meeting follows a deci-
sion of the Council's executive
committee which had previously*
reviewed the report and approv-
ed it "in principle."
The preliminary program, as
announced' by Dr. Shmarya
Kleinman, Council president, in-
cludes a factual review of the
substance of the document it-
self. Following this, an oppor-
tunity will be given to the rep-
resentatives of the various na-
tional agencies involved in the
report to express their views.
Following this, general discus-
sion will be open to the dele-
gate body.
Dr. Kleinman's announcement
emphasized that the general ob-
ject of this special delegate's
meeting will be to arrive at a
consensus, which will express as •
nearly as possible the views of
the Detroit Jewish community
on the Maclver Report. What-
ever point of view will be for-
mulated as a result of the Dele-,
gate Assembly will be used to
serve as a guide for Detroit's
representative who will attend
the Plenary Session of the
NCRAC on November 24th in
Atlantic City. It is at this ses-
sion that the Maclver Report
will receive the consideration of
all of the agencies and commu-
nities affiliated with the NCRAC
.
