Center Language Classes Help
Detroit Newcomers Find Jobs

The scene is a fruit store. A
woman points helplessly at the
things she wishes to buy.- The
seller has to make it clear in
sign language how much it costs.
The woman can't express herself
in English because she is a new-
comer and unfamiliar with the
language.
The scene shifts to an employ-
ment office. A man is trying
hard to fill out the question-
naire but gives up in despera-
tion-he does not understand
the questions. He is a newcom-
er, a survivor of the Hitler holo-
caust who never dreamed that
he would find a haven in
America.

obstacles piece by piece. Here
again the cooperative spirit of
the Detroit Jewish community
manifests itself at its finest.
