Ahavas Achim to Begin
Late Friday Services

The first in a series of late
Friday evening services will be
held tonight at ' 8:30 p.m., at
Cong. Ahavas Achim. Services
will continue through the win-
ter.
Rabbi Ephraim F. Einhorn,
spiritual leader, will conduct the
service, assisted by the choir. In
celebration of Balfour Declara-
tion Day, which is being ob-
served today, Rabbi Einhorn will
speak on "Lord Balfour — His
Place in Jewish History."
Members of the Sisterhood will
act as hostesses at a Sabbath
eve home celebration which will
follow, at which Rabbi Einhorn
will greet members and their
guests. •
A youth group was formed last
week under congregational au-
spices, and 60 young people be-
tween 14 and 17 enrolled as
charter members. Rabbi Ein-
horn, who will act in an athisory
capacity, addressed those pres-
ent. The program of the group,
a social, cultural and recreation-
al body, was outlined.
The following were chosen to
head the young people's • group:
Stanley Levine, president; Clif-
ford Klayman, • vice-president;
Edith Cooper, secretary; and
Roberta Reevesman, treasurer.

Shaarey Zedek Plans Week-End
Celebration for 90th Anniversary

Commencing with an exhibi-
tion of Jewish art objects at the
Detroit Institute of Arts begin-
ning Nov. 15 and continuing
until Dec. 30, Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will observe its
90th anniversary this month.
The art objects have been
loaned to the Detroit Conserva-
tive congregation by the Jewish
Theological Seminary museum.
The celebration itself will
start with a

sent a cantata, written for the
occasion, entitled "The Lord's
Song." A social hour will fol-
low.
The religious school_ classes
will hold their own anniversary
program beginning at 11 a.m.,
Nov. 25 in the main auditorium.

At the annual meeting of
Cong. Bnai David held Oct. 23,
the following officers were
elected: Mendel Shifman, presi-
dent; Charles Shere, vicerpresi-
dent; Harry Pearson, treasurer;
and Dan Otis, secretary.
The new officers will be in-
stalled on Sunday, at the annual
installation dinner, to be held
the social hall of the synagogue.
Prior to dinner, the old admin-
istration will be discharged and
the new administration asked to
dedicate itself to the mainte-
nance of the principles and tra-
ditions of the synagogue.
The installation commit tee
consists of Joseph Ainbinder,
Louis. Bensman,- Harry Pearson,
Dan Otis, Sidney Gorman,' -My-
ron J. Solomon, Charles Shere
and Saul Waxman.

The Post Office Department
pointed out that the extremely
heavy volume of mail destined
for the Far East made it im-
perative that parcels be sent im-
