Hoshofar Musicale
At Davison Center

The first Hashofar musicale of
the season will be held at' 8:45
p.m., Sunday, at the Davison
Jewish Center.
.._ The Jewish Folk Chorus under
the direction of ,Henri Goldberg,
with Eliza Stulman at the piano,
will be heard in Jewish and He-
brew folksongs arranged by Max
Hefman, Jacob Schaefer, Paul
Held, Leo Kopf, M. Polanski and
Henri Goldberg. Ruth Goldman,
soprano, will solo.
Zinovi Bistritzky who recently
returned from New York to join
the first chair of the violin sec-
tion of the new Detroit Sym-
phoniy, will play the "Sonata in
A Minor" by Julius Chajes, with
the composer at the piano.
Following the concert a re-
ception will be held in honor of
some of the members - of the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra.

Gemiluth Chassodim to Honor Family Martyrs
At Celebration. Commemorating 10th Anniversary

Founded 10 years ago as a
Chevra Kadisha by a group of
German -J e w i s h immigrants,
Cong. Gemiluth Chassodim will
pay tribute to its founders at a
special anniversary meeting at
8 p.m., Sunday, at the Rose Sit-
tig Cohen Bldg., Lawton at Ty-
ler.
Today, Cong. Gemiluth Chas-
sodim, with Rabbi Leopold Neu-
haus as spiritual leader. and
Siegfried . Cahn, president, the
synagogue numbers 275 mem-
bers, holds regular services, op-
erates a religious schbol and
participates in social and chari-
table activities.
"Memorbook," reviving an an-
cient custom practiced in Ger-
man Jewish congregations, by
chronicling the names of several
hundred martyred relatives of
individual members, will be, a
unique feature of the anniver-
sary progiam. The volume was
Dr. Hugo Mandelbaum.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Max
prepared under the direction of
Gruenwald, rabbi of Cong. Beth
Israel, in Milburn, N.J. Dr. Gru-

enwald, formerly communal rab-
bi and leader in Mannheith, Ger-

many,'came to the United States

10 years ago. Before accepting
his present pulpit, Dr. Gruen-
wald was associated with the

Jewish Theological Seminary of
America. He is an active parti-
cipant in. many national move-
ments. •

of the United States and Can-
ada, recently visited the plant of
the Atlantic Gelatin Co., division
of General Foods, in Woburn,
Mass., where gelatin is manu-
factured, and after careful ex-
amination and investigation
unanimously concluded that At-
lantic Gelatin is kosher and
parve. The two rabbis observed
the process used in the manu-
facture of gelatin.
Atlantic Gelatin is used in
manufacturing ice cream, candy,
Jell-O "Desserts and other prod-
ucts which are used in Jewish
homes.
Rabbi Judah Leib Seltzer, hon-
orary president of the Agudath
Harabenim, expressed his ap-
proval and endorsement of the
findings of Rabbis Baskin and
Winograd.
A booklet with the certifica-
tions of these prominent rabbis
and the endorsement of their
findings by Rabbi Seltzer, to-
gether with a study of the
Kasruth of Atlantic Gelatin, has
been published in Hebrew and
English. The booklet is available

Begin Rummage Sale

The Sisterhood of Temple
Israel yesterday began its fourth
annual rummage sale, announc-
ed Mrs. David B. Keywell, Sister-
hood president.
The sale is taking place in
permanent quarters at 2221 E.
Davison, with members and
friends participating by con-
tributing clothing, shoes and
household goods.
The rummage sale is the big
fund-raising event of the year
