Ai Congress Halts
Airlines' Bias Practice
One week after its Jim Crow
policies were exposed, American
Airlines agreed to discontinue
the practice of marking reser-
vation orders with code number
designating passengers as Ne-
groes.
The practice was revealed by
the American Jewish Congress
who filed a complaint under the
State Civil Rights Law on in-
forrhation given by a ticket
agent, who was fired for re-
fusing to follow the code system.
The airline, still claiming the
code . was of no significance,
nevertheless agreed to stop the
practite after a conference with
the AJ Congress at the office
of the district attorney of
Queens, New York, where the
complaint was filed.

,Tuidayk, 9904r.. 03 1951, .
On the outside, an extra wide (50 to 70
feet) lot could mean a lot of grass to cut
and it could also mean having to take a
little walk to talk to the enighbor. But,
compensation lies in the fact that the
little woman has plenty of room, in the
driveway, to park the car and never
scratch a thing.
Several models and plans, side en-
trances and traditional center entrances;
with and without front libraries.
If you are willing to overlook Al of
these discomfortures and this type of
home can appeal to you, we wish to ex-
tend an invitation to you, your family
and friends to come out and inspect one
of our model homes.

THE JEWISH NEWS
Of course, there are a. great
number of difficulties arising all
of the time when you live in this
kind of a home. After all, a
large living room with a natural
marble fireplace requires a little
more work to keep clean ,
and a full dining room is more
expense, a dining room set means
table, chairs, breakfront and
service table.
A large modern kitchen offers
its trials and tribulations, too.
To begin with, the garbage
disposal robs someone of that
nice refreshing evening walk to
the back of the house. And the
extra large kitchen means plenty
of room for the whole family to
have a meal together right in
the kitchen .. . and the dining
room set goes unnoticed. Beau-
tiful birch cupboards mean
plenty of storage ,space in the
kitchen, so you hardly ever get
to trek down to the basement-
and it was such a nice way to
reduce, too.
A beautifully tiled grade lava-
tory means that company won't
get to run upstairs and inspect
your bedrooms as often as you
may like them too.
Basements in these homes are
completely unimaginative. Auto-
matic heating, hot water and the
laundry units are all to one side
of the room and that means that
over half of the basement space
is bare. However, it's not too
bad, someday you could put in a
recreation room.
Upstairs there are lots of prob-
lems. First one is a large bath-
room with colored plumbing fix-
tures. Towels have to match
that pretty colored plumbing,
you know. Then there is the
stall shower, means an extra
bath mat to buy.
The three spacious bedrooms
don't offer any special difficul-
ties but those large, roomy
wardrobe closets might. The
kids just might want to fill them
up with clothes and stuff, but,
it'll take a lot of filling up,
