Open New Pumping Station
TEL AVIV, (JTA)—A new cen-
tral pumping station, feeding
water into the Negev-bound
pipeline, was inaugurated north-
west of Beersheba. It has a
capacity of 15,000,000 cubic
meters annually.
The plant will act as a distri-
butor and relay point for water
pumped from wells located fur
ther north, and will pump water
to the Negev. It will irrigate

A Cantor Story
Eddie Cantor who is now do-
ing so much fine work raising
funds for Israel, did an equally
excellent job, it will be recalled,
selling bonds for Uncle Sam,
during the war.
One of Eddie's favorite stories
is of the time he was standing
before a mike, spieling away.
Beside him was a galaxy of
fourteen girls who were to act
as the actual bond salesmen
after Eddie made the warm-up
speech.
One woman indicated her de-
sire to buy bonds, but she in-
sisted that she would only buy
from Eddie direct. Cantor was
finally dragged away from tbe
mike to take the woman's order.
"Yes, yes, lady," said Cantor,
glad to have your order. What
denoMination, please?"
"Jewish," she replied.

The President of a synagogue
once dropped in on the Hebrew
school and the principal put the
boys through a test to impress
the president. Emotionally ex-
cited by the presence of the

stentorian voice thundered:

One youngster who thought
the teacher was eyeing him, an-
swered: "I didn't do it."
"I am sure he is speaking the
truth," interjected the president.
