Old Tribe Returning to Israel
`Sabra' Bears in Israel Zoo
JERUSALEM—(WJA) — Jour-
naliSts in Israel were recently
invited to the Jerusalem Zoo, -
where they were shown among
other things a "Sabra" bear,
born in the Zoo a short time
ago. The zoo gives a home to
fifty animals. Another 120 have
been acquired and are on their
way to Israel.

JERUSALEM (AJP)—The tall, Committee had arranged for the

fled across Africa's barren waste-
lands one step ahead of the

their native Israel, are home
again.
Soon more members of what
many believe to be the remnants
of the Lost Tribe of Dan will be
coming to Israel from the deso-
late howling desert wastlands of
the Protectorate of Aden.

somewhere in the wastelands in

when God will return them to

These are the Habanim, a
group of Jews the Yemenites
call "Bnai Ben," the Sons of
the Son. Unlike their Yemenite
neighbors, the Habanim, who
come from Hadramaut, in the
eastern part of the Aden Pro-
tectorate, are tall and strong.
Like the Yemenites, they are
mainly skilled craftsMen, sil-
versmiths and artisans.

Completely cut off from civiliza-
tion and living by themselves in
small isolated oases in the
formidable desertlands of Aden,
the Habanim dwelled for count-
less centuries without contact
with world Jewry. But their
knowledge of Judaism and He-
brew is perfect. Literacy among
both men and women is high.
So isolated in their desert
fortresses have the Habanim
Jews been, that very few speak
Arabic, the language of the
lands which surround the desert
fortresses of these ancient Jews.
Hebrew is their tongue. And
their knowledge of the official
language of their new land helps
overcome a difficulty most Euro-
pean Jews face upon their entry
to the Jewish State.
The Habanim look very
much like a page out of the
ancient history. Attired in gay-
ly colored cloth, the tribesmen
sport flowing beards and side
curls. The women are hand-
somely bedecked with jewelry
and valuable silver ornaments.
It was not until six months
ago that heavily armed louries
of the British Army pierced the
desert and reached the Haba-
