Since Rabbi and Mrs. Joseph
Eisenman left for Israel in Aug-
ust of 1946, they had many com-
munications from friends en-
closing various amounts a n d
suggesting that the Rabbi, in
his discretion, distribute these
funds and food packages to the
needy and deserving people. -
Rabbi Eisenman, who w a s
rabbi - of Congregations Beth
Tefilo Emmanual a n d Bnai
Jacob in Detroit, reported back
that the need continues great
in Israel, and that these gifts
were appreciated by recipients
with whom he came in contact.
He asked his children in Detroit
to give special thanks to these
friends. His present address is:

Eisendrath Denounces Smear
Campaign Against Maclver
LONDON, (JTA)—The former
Jewish cemetery in the Barba-
dos, in the West Indies, has been
restored to its original use by
a special act of the 1 Barbados
Legislature. In the early 1930's
the cemetery was converted into
a horse racing club, despite the
protests of the Jews.

He commenced h i s services
with the synagogue when it was
located on Willis and Brush as
assistant cantor.
In the present synagogue he
not only has served as assistant
cantor but also has conducted
auxiliary holy day services and
morning Sabbath services.
Before his arrival in Detroit
in 1926. Cantor Silverman offici-
ated - in Toledo for 15 years.
Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath,
President of the Union of Amer-
ican Hebrew Congregations, de-
nounced recent smear attacks
on Prof. Robert M. Maclver
whose report on the Interfaith
and defense work of the nation-
al Jewish agencies questioned
the efficacy of some of the agen-
cies' work. Prof. Maclver, who
undertook a nationwide survey
of community relations and in-
terfaith activities of the various
Jewish agencies on behalf of the I
National Community Relations
Advisory Council, has been at-
tacked in certain quarters as
"biased, anti-Semitic and unob-
j ective."
Taking vigorous exception to
these charges, Dr. Eisendrath en-
dorsed the major premises of
the report and urged speedy im-
plementation of the recommen-
dations, pledging the Union's
full cooperation.
The report praised the posi-
tive contributions of the Union
of American Hebrew Congrega-
tions in the field of interfaith
activity and recommended that
it be given leadership in that
sphere.
