Blind Catholic Teaches At Yeshiva University NEW YORK, (AJP)—Only a Set of punctured cards bearing the names of students in his classroom offer a clue to the basic difference .which sets 35- .year-old speech .Anstruc t o r Ar- ithur D. Imerti, ,za devout Cath- olic, apart from :ether professors at the citadel of Jewish learning, yeshiva Univer- imerti sity. Imerti is blind. The set of cards are the Braille roll call records he uses every day at the start of class. But Imerti has carved a career for himself that would daunt many a man with the full use of his eyes. Imerti is popular with his stu- dents, who classify him as a "regular guy." In addition to teaching two speech classes in the College of Arts and Sciences at Yeshiva University, he is conducting a class at the New School for So- cial Research, where his job is to improve the speech of a group of German-born profes- sors. He also plans to teach Spanish and Italian at the New School this summer. Recently married, Imerti met_ his wife aboard a Greyhound bus, in 1946, on his way to Mex- ico City to attend a summer session at the University of Mexico. His wife, Frances, an elementary school teacher from Milwaukee, was aboard the bus at the same time, and their five- year-old friendship, carried on through correspondence and visits was climaxed by their wedding here in New York, March 25.
