He soon mr7 , 7 became one of the most con- troversial fig- ures in Ameri- can Zionism. A member of the Executive of the Zionist Drganization of America and 3on of the late Torczyner Zionist leader, Numa Torczyner. Jacques is president of the Manhattan ZOA Region. He has held the post of vice-chairman of the ZOA National Adminis- trative Council and chairman of the Committee for World Gen- eral Zionist Affairs. • In 1946, Torczyner made a trip to Europe to organize the scattered remnants of General Zionists. His efforts were of im- portance in the formation of the World ConfederatiOn of General Zionists. In Belgium, Mr. Torczyner was editor of the official publication of the Belgium Zionist Federa- tion and leader of the Zionist youth movement. Basketball in Israel In Israel i where basketball isn't enmeshed in betting syndi- cates, the game is already the country's leading sport. There are now more than 250 organ- izational and school teams. There are some indoor courts, but basketball is primarily an outdoor sport in the new state. Night games are popular on il- luminated courts. Soccer is be- ing pushed out of the spotlight by the cagers for a number of reasons. One important one is space. After one-half houi of questioning, it was established that Mr. Gor- litsky is the brother of the new- comer's late father. Destined to go to Omaha, Leon, an orphan, arrived here under the auspices of United Service for New Americans. The reunion follow- ed after USNA tracked down two slender facts it received from Leon who recalled that his uncle's name was Joseph and that the uncle had lived in Brooklyn many years ago. USNA located Mr. Gorlitsky and rushed him to the pier. Leon was unaware of this when he walked down the gang-plank and gasped as he noticed a man who "looks just like my father."
