Miss Bathsheba Laikin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
M. Laikin of LaSalle Blvd., returned from a seven-day stay in
Israel. Miss Laikin participated in a Jewish Agency-sponsored tour.
While in Israel she lived in a Kibbutz and visited all the important
centers in the land, including Bet Berl where the Morris Schavers
Of this city have established an imposing library.
Philip C. Spickler of Vassar Drive has returned to Coral Gables,
Fla., to resume his studies at the University of Miami.
Dr. Laurence N. Spickler of VasSar Drive, is spending his
vacation at Miami Beach, Fla., and will return on October 1st.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ivan Frankel and children, Johanna and
Robert, formerly of Muirland Ave. left on Friday to make their
permanent home in Westwood, Calif.
• Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Ginn of Birchcrest Drive have returned
from a motor trip East, where their daughter, Elaine, matriculated
at Cornell. Mr. and Mrs, James Ginn have returned to their
studies in Boston.
Mrs. Joseph Brown of Santa Ana, Calif., was a guest at Hotel
Statler here to visit with memberS Of her family while en route to
St. Louis, Mich., where she will be house guest of her sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David_ Seitner.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. Sacks of Merton Road are expected
back this week from a fortnight's stay in New York.
John Alexander, son of Mrs. Milton Alexander of Calvert Ave.,
left Saturday for his studies at Harvard. Also among those re-
turning to Harvard were Stanley Zemon, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Julian Zemon of Wildemere Ave., and Arthur Hartman, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hartman of Shrewsbury Road.
Former Detroiters, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dreifus of Memphis,
Tenn., are the house guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. Clement
Hopp.
Mrs. Esther Mallin of Calvert Ave. is visiting with members
of her family in New York.
Mrs. M. D. Wittleshofer of West Boston Blvd. will leave this
week to spend some time with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Mintz, in Newtonville, Mass.
Bill Frank, son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Frank of Muirland
Ave., has matriculated at Phillip's Academy, Andover, Mass.
Mrs. Day Kolik of Wildemere Ave. and daughter and son-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Brodie of Oak Drive, are on a 10-day
motor trip to the Poconos.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gordon of Roslyn Road were hosts this
week to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Penticoff of Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Klein of Chicago Blvd., have returned
from a visit with members of their family hi Boston. Daughter,
Susan, remained in New London, Conn., to enroll at Connecticut
College.
Dr. Lloyd Mallin of Cleveland spent the past week here to
attend a medical convention and visit with his mother and

piro, a Boston businessman, was
elected president of the First
„Armored Division, an organiza-
tion of veterans who fought in
the North African and Italian
campaigns of World ,War II.
Shapiro, who served at the
rank of lieutenant-colonel, was
wounded during the war and
won the Silver Star for leader-
ship in five battles.
