Holidays Require Earlier Deadlines
Riviera in Israel
Not Too Remote
From an Actuality
Due to the large Rosh Hashanah edition to
be published on Sept. 28, all copy for that issue
must be in our hands on Monday, Sept. 24.
-
Feature story in the current
September-October edition of
the Lincoln-Mercury Times Ma-
gazine, and occupying its front
and back covers is a story by
Meyer Levin, with original
paintings by Jean David.
The famous author of "In
Search" takes readers of the
magazine on a tour of Israel's
coast line, which he calls the
"Riviera in Israel." The day
when Israel will have a play-
ground similar to Franc e's
world famous spot is not remote,
since Israel's lovely coastal area
has everything to offer in the
way of beauty, sandy beaches
and scenery.
Levin states that a coastal
highway is now being erected,
which will make luxurious re-
sorts out of barren plains. Tour-
ist resorts and casinos are
sprouting up all over the area,
in Tel Aviv, in Haifa, in Gaza,
in Herzlia, in Nathanyah, in Bib-
lical Caesaria, all over bunga-
lows, motels, tourist lodgings are
being constructed.
If not another Riviera, it cer-
tainly will be a Hollywood, Levin
asserts. Not in the sense of mak-
ing films, but of being a movie
colony. The only place not plan-
ning to build another Holly-
wood, Levin says, is Acre. There
the Arabs in long gowns, the
orthodox Jews with earcurls, the
modern Jews in shorts and the
tourists already give the ap-
pearance of a Hollywood movie
set.
The story by Levin is ably il-
lustrated by Jean David, whose
interpretive n1 o d e r n paintings
colorfully display the beauty
that is Israel.
