U.S. offered fresh start to 14,000 former 19.1)..'s UJA to Continue World-Wide Rescue Activities in 5712 In the year 5711, concluding next week, the American Jew- ish community, through its' support of the United Jewish Appeal, recorded a year of life-saving achievements in behalf of tens of thousands of Jewish men, women and children. With UJA funds, more than 210,000 Jews were brought to Israel from East European and Moslem countries . . . food, clothing, medicine and housing were provided to thousands of newcomers in the Jewish state .. relief and medical programs were conducted in behalf of 400,000 distressed Jews in North Africa and Europe . . more than 14,000 Jews • were brought to the U. S. for per- manen.t resettlement. Through the UJA's agencies—United Pales- tine Appeal, Joint Distribution Committee and United Service for New Americans—the task of rescue, rehabilitation and re- settlement that began on V-E Day and when Israel was estab- lished were advanced in the face of growing world tensions. In the year 5712; commencing on Oct. 1, the removal of distressed Jews from danger zones and their integration into the Hie of Israel must be continued, as must all other world-wide programs of life-saving carried on by the UJA's agencies.
