JWIT Encampment Pledges Boycott
Of All Communist-Made Products

(From AJP and JTA Wires)
ATLANTA—The Jewish War
Veterans, one of the first Jewish
organizations to start a boycott
of goods made in Nazi Germany
during Hitler's early years as
dictator of the country, has
pledged to do the same to prod-
ucts of Communist puppet
states.
The JWV ended its annual en-
campment here by electing Paul
Ginsberg, Atlanta attorney, new
national commander. Mrs. Jes-
sica Slatis, of Chicago was
elected president of the women's
auxiliary.
The role of Israel as an out-
post of democracy was described
to delegates by Rep. Emanuel
Celler and by Major General
Robert Pepper, commandant of
the U.S. Marine Corps camp at
Parris Island, S.C.
Declaring that Israelis the
Only democratic state in the
Middle East, Rep. Celler said "if
Israel fails, then the enemies of
democracy will point to its fail-
ure as conclusive proof that the
principle of democracy as ex-
pressecLin a democratic form of
government cannot bring secur-
ity to itself and to its people. If

Israel fails, it is that much more
grist to the Communist propa-
ganda mill."
Gen. Pepper told the delegates
that "The State of Israel" is ap-
proaching its problems with the
same dauntless courage and
fortitude that have character-
ized the efforts of our owv na-
tion.
"Israel holds out new hope to
millions of people throughout
the world—the hope of living in •
justice and decency, of building
a new life in freedom and trust."
A parade and patriotic rally of
all branches A the armed -serv-
ices, veterans organizations and
civic and fraternal groups was a
feature of the encampment.
Delegates heard a plea from
Secretary of Labor Maurice J.
Tobin that President Truman
be urged to seek re-election next
year.
